I don't know why they think they can keep pushing this when everyone loves the goodie-two-shoes Chris Evans Captain America.

No, Marvel seems pretty committed to this idiocy. If it was just gimmick, they'd have dropped it by now. It's been a year.

The Spider clone lasted a very long time for a gimmick too. So did the death and Return of Superman. Batman's broken back. Those all lasted well over a year.

Yeah it's a lame gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless. It's inevitable, really. There are only so many stories you can tell with the same characters for 80 years, eventually you start scraping the bottom of the barrel with these shock value plot lines. I just feel bad for kids who may be just getting into comics. This is their introduction to Captain America?
I read comics as a kid, and I still pick up the occasional tpb to see what's going on in the MCU. I can't imagine how adults read this stuff on a regular basis because at best it's repetitive and at worst it's...this.
But again, the most unfortunate part to me is the idea that some kid is reading his first Cap book and this is what he finds.

Yeah, but the thing of it is, this is the first time in a long, long time Captain America has been a truly relevant, popular character, thanks to Chris Evans' performance in the movies? This is how they choose to capitalize on that?

I haven't bought a comic in a long time, but I'm almost inclined to so when you say, This, as though it's a bad thing, I don't get it.

I can understand where Raptor's coming from. It'd be like a kid's first introduction to Batman being Azrael. A murderous mind-warped assassin.

I'm saying it's lame and it's too bad some kid's first literary experience with the character is a garbage story where Cap represents everything he stands against in the movies that probably got the kid interested in the comics in the first place.

You're also not a kid who became interested in the character because of the films. Do you really think kids who look up the cinematic Captain America as a role model are going to be at all amused when they discover he's a goose-stepping Nazi now in the comics?

So again you're saying it's wrong to do, because invariably somebody is going to be reading cap for the first time. So it would then always be wrong to do this story in your view. I don't see the problem. And while I haven't read these issues, I don't find the concept lame at all. It's actually quite interesting if you ask me.

Haven't they had 6+ years of Captain America comics since his first film came out? How long do they have to wait? Are you saying they could never do this storyline because somebody might read it for the first time? Are you under the impression that things won't go back to normal at some point? I don't see what you're freaking out about. Frankly it's the first story I've heard about in awhile that's got me interested in buying a comic.

Again, I'm saying it's a shitty story regardless of the timing, but particularly lousy because there are potentially more young first time readers than say 20 years ago due to the popularity of the films. You think it's an interesting story and I think it's garbage. I'm not telling Marvel what to do with their story, I'm giving my opinion on it. Get it?

And in those last six years, Marvel has been screwing Cap over repeatedly between taking away being Captain America, making him old, then making him evil, and then making him evil again. No, I don't think things are going to go back to normal, because apparently normal Steve Rogers isn't good enough for Marvel Comics, and somehow CA: Civil War being the highest grossing film of 2016 isn't enough to prove that there is an audience for plain ol' Boyscout Steve Rogers. So tell me what exactly IS a good jumping on for any new young readers, because I'm not seeing one.
