South African-born British journalist and lyricist Herbert Kretzmer has left us at the age of 95, on October 14th. He was best known as the lyricist for the English-language musical adaptation of Les Misérables as well as for his long-time collaboration writing the English-language lyrics to the songs of French songwriter Charles Aznavour, among others on his 1974 hit "She". He also penned the lyrics to the 1960 song "Goodness Gracious Me", made famous by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren. His lyrics are on many soundtracks. He is remembered by BBCR.I.P. Herbert Kretzmer
