My cousin who has zero interest in these films liked Harley Quinn, my neighbors kids talk about Harley, WB must have done something right. So she's popular in your neighborhood. J/K Ha, maybe. Just sayin' she did something right to get the public's attention, and I think even critics said that Harley and Deadshot were standouts in a mess of a movie.

Surprisingly, yes. Her comics consistently outsell the likes of Wonder Woman and Superman, and she was an extremely popular Halloween costume for 2 years in a row. But she has a very different look in the comics compared to Suicide Squad. I was talking about the SS version Harley Quinn. Is she that popular to be able to carry a movie on her own? Well technically she won't be alone.....I'm mean Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Black Mask, probably some joker and maayyyyybeee batman. I know if I use an MCU film as an example I'll get 79 counter arguments....so.....I'll use Deadpool, even more unknown than Harley and it did well. It just depends on trailers and the film, and again Harley was fairly well received by most.

I didn't say she wasn't sexed up at all, but Harley is at flat out stripper quality, while Widow shows almost no skin, and is still dressed respectably.
Again, I don't see how a skintight catsuit is dressing respectively. A person doesn't need to show a lot of skin to wear a sexualized outfit. I'm not sure what you're not getting about Harley looking like a complete whore is completely different than anything Black Widow has ever worn.
If you're just calling both sexy and acting like that makes it even, you're missing the point.

Ya but critics were pointing out two performances that they thought were good in an otherwise horrible movie. There are many terrible movies which have a few good performances. That doesn't mean that it is enough for those characters to get their own movies. Just saying.

That would be like Dr. Zola get his own movie in the MCU.

well gcs.....yeah....that's an odd choice, probably driven more by harley quinn's popularity. Is she THAT popular??? Her comic book consistently outsells every other DC book outside of Batman titles. I would say yes. She is the new Superman, I guess, somewhat sadly.

You argued that Black Widow managed to be popular without being "sexed up", and I'm merely pointing out how that's not exactly true. Besides, Black Widow can't be as popular as you're making her out to be, when she's not even getting her own film.

Black Widow didn't need that to get over.
She's not getting her own film because she doesn't add to the overall narrative. Harley getting her own film just shows that DC doesn't care about that, or doesn't understand that. It has nothing to do with Black Widow's popularity. I would have thought you might have understood that. You see Marvel actually thinks about what they're doing, they plan, they have restraint, they have patience. DC just vomits out whatever they think of next which is a perfect explanation for BVS and even the complete waste of individual scenes within it like the death of clark. It's that Marvel plays it smart and DC is inept.

I'm not just talking in terms of films. Harley Quinn's comics are pretty big money-makers, and she was the most popular costume choice for Halloweens 2015 and 2016. People are much more likely to cosplay as her than Black Widow, even though both characters are "sexed up". I don't like Harley Quinn as a character, and I never have, but she's definitely a more popular character than Black Widow. The reason I'm bringing this up is because you seemed to imply that Black Widow has a similar level of popularity as Harley Quinn, when that really isn't the case.

I said Harley's whorish appearance in the film was a large reason why her depiction there got so much attention. Widow didn't need to look like a whore. Are you arguing that?

If you weren't arguing about popularity, why did you specifically say "Sure, they showed off her ass and gave her a sassy attitude. Marvel didn't need to do that to get Black Widow popular"? I'm also pretty sure that Black Widow did have a bit of a sassy attitude. She's a pretty snarky individual.

It's the same reason they wasted the death of superman story, the same reason they raced to get the JL, and many other things. They just go with whatever pops into their head and don't spend any time thinking about it, or considering how that impacts anything or where it's leading. So sure, put Harley in micro shorts and swing her ass. That'll get people talking. Yes it will. Yes it will. Now let's give her a movie. Where is it going? Nobody cares, just give her a movie.

I was just pointing out that Widow is popular, and plenty popular to get her own film, but Marvel doesn't need to whore up their women. It's weird you tried to imply Widow couldn't get her own film, as though she wasn't popular enough. Yeah right.

She didn't even get her own toyline for the longest time, because Ike Perlmutter assumed that no one would want to buy toys for a female character.

I think we're done here.

The constant cry from particular groups of fans. She's still a supporting character in the MCU. I'm not saying she doesn't have a following, but Marvel doesn't seem to think her following is enough to justify even considering giving her a movie, and keep in mind, Marvel tried making an Inhumans movie.

They had enough room in their schedule for two Ant-Man movies after all.
