Caesars assassination was a misfire as the middle and lower classes loved Caesar as well.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was the Archduke Ferdinand mentioned above. WWI was the most senseless war ever fought. Worst results, though? I hate to say it but the most recent political assassination may have worse results.

Worldwide, Franz Ferdinand. But I think something was bound to set off the Great War.
In one nation, Lincoln. He had the clout and the desire to make Reconstruction easier and enfranchise the blacks at the same time. Andrew Johnson was the worst possible person to take the office. He hated the South and hated the blacks. And he was weak. Years of atrocious race relations were a result of JW Booth.

Yep, that war was coming whatever. yeah that is true, my guess is that if it had not happened in 1914 it would have started at some point between 1916 and 1922. That is just my guess i am not claiming is as a fact.

The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin has left Israel and Palestine in a horrible mess.

The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin has left Israel and Palestine in a horrible mess. Well yes, however, it was good thing that the perpetrator was an Jewish citizen & not a Muslim one, otherwise, WWIII would have resulted.

In modern history (so no Roman times and stuff like that) definitely Franz Ferdinand.

Ironic. Take all the assassinated, Julius Caesar, Abraham Lincoln, Franz Ferdinand, John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Yitzak Rabin, Mohandas and Indira Gandhi. The least beloved person caused the most grief. And the least important (at the time).
Be 1914, Europe was tap dancing in a minefield. Something was going to set it off.

I suppose that would have been worse, but still there's something especially tragic about a self-inflicted injury (at a state level).

The last attempted one, wasn't even politically motivated. It was motivated by a movie star obsession. The country has always managed to endure.

The last attempted one, wasn't even politically motivated. It was motivated by a movie star obsession. The country has always managed to endure. The last attempt (against Reagan) at least was unsuccessful, which obviously lessens the impact. It's fair to say the assassinations of Lincoln, MLK Jr, and the Kennedys have had an enduring dark and negative impact America, just as Rabin's has had on Israel.
