God bless ya, buddy. A scorching that was a long time coming for the phonies who love to tell us how to behave.
The looks on the altered faces? Precious.

He clearly had a "Aw, fuck it" kind of attitude which put him in his element.

It was like watching the baptism scene from The Godfather, but with jokes instead of bullets.
I think he's phoned it in the last couple times, but last night he killed it. Of course, the celebs had to lecture people anyway, including Joaquin who's got a close friendship with Casey Affleck and even produced the movie Casey got #metoo'd on.

Michelle Williams's speech was cringe-inducing. Brad Pitt was quick and to the point with a nice little addition at the end of doing something nice for somebody the next day. Joaquin Phoenix was so all over the place that I wasn't really bothered by it. It was amusingly strange. I actually like Light of My Life, which I assume is the Casey Affleck movie you are talking about. It's like The Road, the #MeToo version, but it is well made, well written and well acted imo.

Just heard about this. Man he must have balls of steel and nerves of ice to say that to their faces with such conviction.

Like he hasn’t done 5 times before. Damn, some folks are desperate to “get one over Hollywood Elitists.” The best way to do that is quit going to the movies and watching TV.

Sadly most of the white lib actors are too self obsessed and delusional to grasp Gervais was talking about them. White libs are pro censorship these days but oddly many online seem offended that Gervais tols their Hollywood Gods to shut the fuck up.
It's almost like white libs are amazingly hypocritical.

Or a more realistic view is people are tired of shit stupid high school dropouts who rape kids and women leaping onto soap boxes and telling them how to live. That's cool if you look to Hollywood hypocrites for your political and moral beliefs but if others are smart enough to prefer actors stick to something they actually know about why does it upset you?

I don’t look to Hollywood for political or moral beliefs. It’s the conservatives who seem to want the Hollywoodites to be people of moral character like Reagan and Trump (big fail on the last one.)

It's amazing to me that people seem to think that what Gervais had to say was somehow "important".
I even saw somebody saying he had "destroyed Hollywood". That's pretty amazing. Without Hollywood, I wonder where they'll make all the movies? Bollywood, I suppose.

I don't particularly care about the moral character of Hollywood, nor am I naive enough to think that there actually is moral character in Hollywood. I'm not 12 years old, I figured out a long time ago that Hollywood is full of questionable folks. I just don't appreciate being lectured to by anyone who makes a living there. I do believe that there are millions of us who just want Hollywood to entertain, not moralize. And Gervais's monologue was a big F U to those that do, at least that's how I view it.

I never watch those stupid award shows and there’s already several threads about this over at politics which is where I watched the monologue clip. Otherwise, I didn’t watch and don’t even care who won. When celebrities, left or right, pontificate, I tune out. Let’s leave this continuous shit off the film boards and try to have fun. Okay?

Well, this is the Films General board, and it was an awards shows for films, so not sure why this can't be discussed. But just for you, I'll try to keep things here light and fun from now on. You want to see something fun, check out Ricky Gervais's opening remarks at last night's Golden Globes awards show. I thought it was pretty hilarious.

Dirty Santa PaulsLaugh Since not enough people would stop going to the movies and watching TV for them to care, it feels better with him saying it directly to their face sure, I don't expect much to change but at least Ricky told em how it is. like already mentioned in here... it was him saying a big F U to Hollywood from the common person (primarily from us conservatives). millar70 Yeah, I think it boils down to how serious they take their opinions on politics on how they will take what he said. the ones who are more firmly left and get upset when anyone dissents from their line of thinking are more likely to get offended/upset than someone who's left but ain't too preachy about their politics. miike80 Yeah, even before his comments recently I thought he's probably the best host they have in general for those awards types of shows and I like how he sits there with his beer etc. he's just better at comedy then random hosts on there. they should bring him back but he will probably turn up missing after he told it like it is to those godless heathens.
Hell, they are anti-truth/morality etc nowadays as they are okay with just about everything except the truth and doing what's right. so they want to censor any opposing views because they can't win in a honest debate because the truth is generally not on their side. that's what many on the left always do, just claim someone is "racist" (or some other BS), or what they are saying is 'hateful speech' etc, in a attempt to shutdown the conversation and demonize the person with the opposing view.
