He probly just put his name on it as a favor to someone.
I wish they'd both do something good again. I always thought it was kinda weird and unfortunate that she didn't get more mainstream work. She's always been better than the kinds of movies she's gotten to be in.

Never understood why Joe Dante was supposed to be a big deal. I think the last thing I saw from him was Burying The Ex or something.

Gremlins, The Howling, Innerspace, etc. He was an excellent and unique director in his time. Like all good directors, though, he crapped out later in his career. Burying the Ex wasn't much of anything, but it doesn't invalidate his entire career.

Burying the Ex wasn't much of anything, but it doesn't invalidate his entire career. Small Soldiers, which was a relative hit if I recall, was his last big mainstream movie. He did that Looney Tunes one afterwards but I think that was doomed from the start. I don't think anybody was clamoring for another Looney Tunes in live action movie, and by the time he got it going his stars were already sort of washed up and no longer marquee names. Since then he hasn't gotten any studio attention. It's a shame because I think he might still have it in him to do something fun and inventive, but he can't get the budget together. It's gonna take a Netflix or someone to take chance on him, or a mainstream star that wants to do his next project to get one of his films back in front of a wide audience. Like had The Hole had a notable star in the cast and been given more of an effects budget it might have been a lot better. Burying the Ex too. It was disappointing, I agree, but some of that was because it felt so small and confined, but there are some decent ideas and performances in there. I think more of a budget to develop that script and exploit that concept with bigger ideas and effects could have made for a more classic-feeling Joe Dante film.

I would also like to add that Gremlins 2 is objectively the best sequel ever and will fight anyone over it.

Dante is an oddball because he is extremely knowledgeable on old horror and sci-fi (he also collects 35mm prints of movies) and yet every single one of his horror films are family-oriented comedies (after Piranha and the Howling). The closet thing to a serious horror film might be the MANT! sequences in Matinee. He turned down Batman 1989.
He said ten years ago that he expected most movie directors would be unemployed after the dvd market died.

I'm always rooting for Danielle Harris to find another hit horror film.

I'm always rooting for Danielle Harris to find another hit horror film. I'm not sure how limited his involvement was, but Joe Dante could use a hit too. A fine and moral man from New Jersey who's had a few tough breaks of late.
Danielle Harris needs another 'Hatchet' (franchise starter) or 'Stakeland' (critics favourite), something to ignite the base (who'll never leave her).

I did enjoy The Hole (2009). I thought he would have some sort of a comeback at the time. It seems odd that he fell so far, not as a human but from such a great list of well made, quality fantasy films.

I'm fortunate to have 'The Hole' on dvd but I'm a Dante collector with plenty of his best titles on dvd. I think his old pal John Landis has experienced similar fortunes - unbeatable for a long haul, but seemingly can't buy a hit in this new-fangled movie era.

The 'Burbs doesn't get enough recognition, it's predominantly a comedy but it's the perfect amount of horror and suspense too, I love that movie, it's one of my favorites, gives you a little Fright Night vibe among other things.

Haven't seen it in forever and I remember not liking it. I'll have to give it another shot some time soon.
