Always really liked that movie. The animation, the music, and the villain are amazing but I also remember liking the side characters such as the fairies and the kings. Perhaps it was just the simplicity of it all.

It's one of Disney's most significant films, in terms of the course of animated history. Very expensive at the time, as lots of money and effort went into the gorgeous animation, the film was a flop, which ultimately caused a whole revamp of Disney art department ushering in the era of the Xerox.
Personally I enjoy Sleeping Beauty primarily for its amazing animation, and amazing villain. What the film really lacks however is a great hero/protagonist to counterbalance Maleficent. The three fairies?? Aurora? Frederick?? None really qualify as the films central character, making it harder to be invested.

You're right to some degree, Seto, but then Disney's villains and side-characters always outweighed their heroes, except in a very few number of cases. The Dwarves and the Evil Queen are more significant than Snow White. Likable a protagonist though Pinocchio is, "Pleasure Island's" donkeys and Monstro the Whale are more memorable. The Headless Horseman is more striking than Ichabod Crane in Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The Evil Stepmother and Stepsisters are far more memorable than Cinderella. I could go on, but suffice it to say that Disney's villains and sidekicks do tend to be more--well--significant, certainly larger-than-life. Maleficent in a large way just takes that tradition to the next level.
