It’s a pastime of mine. I consider rewatching old games to be like watching a movie I’ve already seen. Sure, I already know what’ll happen - but I can still enjoy the manner in which it plays out, and study areas of strategy a little more closely that the sheer thrill of the first watch blinded me to. Old games are their own little slice of sports history that never fail to capture a particular time and place, and it’s fun to revisit.
Why, I just finished rewatching the ‘06 AFC title game - Colts defeating the Patriots and advancing to Super Bowl XLI. The abundance of full NFL and MLB games available on YouTube is highly gratifying. Good luck finding full broadcasts of old soccer matches - FIFA hold onto them harder than their balls.

Usually watch old Pats games during the bye week before the Super Bowl as I get hyped to watch them win another one. Of course, I have plenty time for that this offseason.

oh - and pro wrestling matches on Youtube too like old school stuff before my time - 70s/80s WWF, NWA, WCCW, AWA, the old school territory days like Memphis Wrestling, Mid South, etc - sometimes 90s wrestling when I used to follow it closely I can watch old storylines over and over if they're interesting - i.e. like when Andy Kaufman used to beat up fat chicks and the whole storyline portrayed during that era - it's topnotch hysterical entertainment -

Sometimes, if the game was compelling/exciting, I might rewatch it.

Sometimes, but never in their entirety. And usually my focus isn't there.
I still have the end of that MSU-Michigan game ending taped where the Michigan punter had that frain fart and MSU scored to win. Watch that sometimes.

I just finished rewatching the ‘06 AFC title game - Colts defeating the Patriots and advancing to Super Bowl XLI. That was a great game! Colts coming back from an 18-point deficit, with Peyton Manning leading an epic drive down the field for the go-ahead TD, and then the INT of Brady to end the game. The games that I re-watch the most often are: Super BowlsSuper Bowl XII - Cowboys vs Broncos (1st NFL game I ever watched) Super Bowl XXVII - Cowboys vs Bills (Cowboys return to the Super Bowl after 14 years and score 52 points) Super Bowl XXVIII - Cowboys vs Bills (Emmitt Smith, playing with an injured shoulder, rushes for 132 yards and 2 TDs and the Cowboys repeat) Super Bowl XXX - Cowboys vs Steelers (Cowboys win 3rd Super Bowl by a double-digit margin in 4 years) Super Bowl XLII - Giants vs Patriots (an exciting game with no lead larger than 4 points and 3 lead changes in the 4th quarter and an exciting 83-yard game-winning TD drive in the final 3 minutes highlighted by the most incredible play in Super Bowl history) World Series2010 World Series Game 5 - Giants vs Rangers (a tense pitchers' duel between Tim Lincecum and Cliff Lee and then Edgar Renteria breaks the scoreless tie in the 7th inning with a 2-out, 3-run home run to give the Giants their 1st World Series title in San Francisco) 2012 World Series Game 4 - Giants vs Tigers (Giants score a run in the 10th inning to complete the sweep) 2014 World Series Game 7 - Giants vs Royals (Madison Bumgarner on 2 days rest pitches 5 scoreless innings in relief and Giants become the 1st team in 35 years to win a Game 7 on the road) NCAA Basketball1982 National Championship - Georgetown vs North Carolina (James Worthy scores 28 points and freshman Michael Jordan scores 16 points, including the game-winner with 17 seconds left, to give Dean Smith his 1st National Championship) 1985 National Championship - Villanova vs Georgetown (8th-seeded Villanova shoots 78.6% and upsets defending national champion Georgetown) 2016 National Championship - Villanova vs North Carolina (Villanova wins when Kris Jenkins hits a 30-feet shot at the buzzer, the 1st buzzer-beating shot to win a national championship since Lorenzo Charles' dunk in 1983)

I can see the appeal of watching the highlights of past games, but the whole thing? No, I have never done that.

Yes - - and I'll watch any of them (although with a loss, I usually don't watch the end). I love watching games that I've forgotten from the 80s and 90s where the players may have passed through for just a couple of years. Get to see Three Rivers, the big shoulder pads, the block numbers, the graphics used by CBS, NBC, etc - - I'm nostalgic for all of that stuff. There's a Steeler fan site called McMillen and Wife that has all these uploads of Steelers games through the years. Just in 2020 they've uploaded seven games from the 1988 season (and one 1986 preseason game!) - - full game original content from the networks. Who can resist Tim Ryan and Dan Jiggetts calling a 1988 game between the 5-5 Eagles and the 2-8 Steelers for CBS? I ask ye, are you not entertained??? www.mcmillenandwife.com/

Back when I had cable and cared about the NFL, I had the entire Giants '07/'08 playoff run saved on my DVR. The Super Bowl and NFC Championship Game in Green Bay were obviously great and of greater historical impact, but the one I found myself re-watching the most was the division round game against the Cowboys.
The Giants marched into Dallas to take on the 13-3 Cowboys, the #1 seed in the NFC featuring the league's 2nd best offense. They had beaten the Giants twice that year, pretty easily, and were favored to win by a touchdown.
We all know what happened that day. The Giants rose up and defeated them, thus causing the pussyfaces to remained ensconced in their now 25 year run of abject mediocrity, the stain of such humiliation ever haunting them. Obviously, the following games were more important (in no small part because the Cowboys are of no importance) but when you crush your hated division rivals like that, that's when sports are at their most satisfying.

Yep. I've rewatched blowouts from 30 years ago involving two teams I couldn't care less about. I'll rewatch old games of cricket where Australia are getting plumelled.
Every now and then, it will turn out to be a game I have fond memories of. Like I see the play happening and remember it's going to be awesome. "Collingwood surging forward...at the back is Davis, who has been breathtaking! And here comes the coup de gras!"

Sorry, but I have to correct you. It's "coup de grace". A coup de gras would be hitting someone with a slab of fat!

One thing which is particularly good on YouTube is having all the old fights on there in full.
Recently watched Tyson vs Holmes then Tyson vs Buster Douglas.
I guess for football matches, etc people are more likely to just watch the goals / highlights but it's fascinating watching fights like these in full. You can see Tyson's aura of invincibility disappear round by round. Going to rewatch the Holyfield fights next...

I'm not boxing expert but if anyone is on here is, it would be good to get a list of classic fights worth watching...
Actually I was thinking if Sports are going to be dead for some time, we could post one as an "event" on here, with a link to the YouTube stream and a start viewing time. Could get a wee group together watching "as live".

In 1967 before pubs had TVs and only a minority of the populace could afford them, I together with approx 50 others, strangers to a man, stood outside a Radio Rentals shop in Elephant & Castle gazing through their window to watch Glasgow Celtic beat Inter-Milan 2-1 to become the first British team to win the European Cup, in Lisbon. Every 10 years or so I rewatch that match on YouTube. This was very much a David v Goliath match, especially after Inter took an early lead from a penalty but Celtic was destined to win and seemed to know it, as did Inter. Wave after wave of attacks eventually saw the Italians cede two goals in the second half and pandemonium broke out at the final whistle. To this day I find it hard to believe, hence my rewatching of the match.

Uruguay vs Ghana, 2010 World Cup QF.
Controversially, when it comes to Suarez's infamous handball at the end, I would have done the same thing.
