From a source that one can google "for each degree the Earth's climate changes". This is at 3-4 degrees, which is obviously going to be the case of a domino effect if we ever get to 1-2 degrees.
They can honestly say "I told you so", and whomever doesn't listen to the reality of the domino effect that is at least possible, even if one doesn't believe certain, at least one has to believe it is possible, and steps need to be taken NOW by any sane leaders of any government.
Well, giving up sane leaders. So I'll say "Goodbye, Human Race" right now. It wasn't a fun ride. And there are loonies telling people to "chill" over having no future. And don't think those of us over 60 don't care. We senior types are especially desirous, out of stewardship, to leave a better world behind. The problem is mostly the Generation X types who were groomed to be stubborn and arrogant in ignorance, thinking themselves demigods and a superior species.
Not all Gen X people, and the good ones know it. I'm sorry. I had no clout, so I just chipped in what I could, lowering my intake of fuel and plastic and all the pollutants. Guess Homo Sapiens as a species was too demon possessed. Nothing else explains it. Not greed. Greed doesn't explain self destruction. Only demon possession does.

Sounds apocalyptic but fascinating reading. Is there a link for this?

The struggle for survival is part (read: necessary evil) of evolution. Without a struggle that limits the population, the population will continue to grow.
More people burn more fossil fuel for heat, lights, transportation. They eat more so the tractors of Iowa burn more fossil fuel to harvest corn.
When the s*** finally hits the fan, people will starve, or die of disease. The population will go down and climate change will end and the cycle will start over again.

In essence, it makes little sense to continue to use antiquated policies of bringing in hundreds of thousands to millions of new people annually. We can't fight climate change by sucking up more natural resources and paving over more land in order to accommodate such unfettered population growth. More people = more development = more congestion = more pollution.

"Things to Come" is actually a great B&W film title from the late 1930's.... I saw it some years ago. It was adapted from H.G. Wells The Shape of Things to Come. One important difference is that in the movie WWII lasts for over a hundred years, instead of a measly six years. Although the carnage on the Eastern Front was massive, it was localized. I wonder if WWII would have been considered a world war if the United States and Japan had never become involved.

Hey! I made this thread before the other one came up. Someone is trying to steal my thunder again.
Incidentally, I stopped using plastic straws a month ago, although one concession server at work sneaked one in on me a week ago, and it fell out on the floor. Really, they ought to ban plastic straws unless prescribed by a doctor (for whatever reason), and ban the manufacture of plastic except for medical use, scientific research, and defense need. The law should be strictly enforced, and those manufacturing executives who disobey this law should be exiled to the Northern most part of Alaska for ten years for each offense. Or perhaps to Kodiak Island with all the Kodiak bears.

Apparently the optimum number of people to exist on the planet at any one time lies in the vicinity of 1.5 billion to 2 billion people.

Apparently the optimum number of people to exist on the planet at any one time lies in the vicinity of 1.5 billion to 2 billion people. Well, we have far exceeded this. No wonder we are having so many environmental problems and breeding still gets promoted. China recognised this with their One Child policy yet got universally condemned from the West. It is not that simple, however I DO condemn the antiquated Catholic Church for its stance on contraceptives which IMHO is criminal and governments should be providing contraceptives at reduced affordable prices and promoting it for their populations. It should be a privilege to have children not a right. and don't even get me start on those stupid Americans cutting funding to institutions such as Planned Parenthood for fucking 'religious' reasons!

The pandemic may make some people forget all about this.
Until it's too late.
