Psychedelics shone a light to help illuminate within and without, and it has permeated all music and all genres ever since. Let's take a trip through all things psychedelic... Sharan Rani - Raga Darbari Kanada Phil Stroud - Banksia Sally Eaton - Flowers in the Air

Leave it to you to post something I've never heard. That Sally Eaton is a perfect representation of the subject.
"Psychedelic music" is a label which I can't really define, but I think I know it when I hear it.
This one was released in Dec, 1967 as the B-side to "She's A Rainbow."
The A-side.

Ooh, I like that Sally Eaton track quite a lot, I'll have to track more of that down. Sounds like some strange ISB/Pentangle/Les Rallizes Denudes mashup.
Is there anything specific about psychedelia that makes it fit the genre? I must admit, I have a hard time determining what counts and what doesn't. But I count these things as psychedelic, and it's my opinion that matters to me.

I'm glad Sally Eaton is getting some love. 'Flowers in the Air', to me, is the epitome of psychedelic music. That album is really good too, btw. Slightly surprised that what makes psychedelic music what it is, is elusive. It is a bit like trying to describe an acid trip, I suppose. Instrumentation wise it's 'exotic' sounding, using 'non-European' instruments, but not exclusively, effects pedals, like a wah-wah or fuzz box, or both, if you're going really psychedelic. I guess it's sustaining notes and then melding them together to achieve something modal and/ or 'ethereal'. Lyrically, psychedelic music is about regression, innocence, childhood, nature, enlightenment, love, (r)evolution, or is surrealistic. The music can be avant-garde/ experimental, this seems to lend itself to psychedelic music, as it's pushing the envelope to 'reveal' something that couldn't be otherwise. So, using the acid trip analogy, you know it when it hits you, but there are some outliers, and exceptions. Kak - Everything's Changing

One of my favourite albums of 2019. It's an ambient journey through pastoral vistas and broken machinery.
Lots of knob-twiddling and instrument-fiddling.
Sitary drones and breathy vocals.
Slow techno thing with huge amounts swirling bleepy noises.
