i wonder why is a movie avout female friendship written and directed by men only. maybe thats part of the problem. evrtuhong i. it feels forced and unrealistic and portrayed women as sappy AND stupid and unfunny WHILE they are spewig feminist sounding shit that is somehow supposed to be emppwering in this weird male designed world. mystery explained.
why they didnt get a female writer to the team is beyong my understanding.

Female writers can suck just as bad as male counterparts. All the women in the cast can be really funny: Hayek, Byrne, Haddish. If the material isn't there, it's just not gonna work, like any other film.

of course they can. but if the Main topic and theme of the film is “female friendships” (and its about nothing else) wouldnt it be a good idea to have at least one woman on the creative team (writer/ditector)? They did. The story was originally written by a woman named Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. Whether the screenwriters followed her exact plot to the hilt is unclear. “ Story by” May be as little as “two women start a makeup company and their friendship gets tested when a bigger company wants to buy them out.” The fact she wasn’t even cocreditrd as a screenwriter means she didn’t provide a single line to the script. And the dialogue was the biggest problem. The story itself is a non story - meaning it’s a trope that is rehashed for the gazilionth time: long time friends and something comes between them so they need to take a look at their friendship. That could have turn out bad or good. But someone had to take the basic premise and build up on it and turn it into a 90 page script. That someone should have either had a bigger experience writing full length feature or the sense to invite a female writer to join them and occasionally ask “does this sound lame to you or is this how female friendships mostly work?” Or “are we just making women look immature and stupid without giving our characters any depth or femininity other than being hysterical, immature and bickering all the time? I thought in my head about good movies about female relationships - Bridesmaids, Mean Girls or even Thelma and Louise. I wasn’t sure who wrote them (swear to god) and was going to give it to you as example of good male written movies about female relationships to show you I don’t hate on all male written movies about women. Turns out, coincidentally they were all written by women, who knew . maybe that’s why they feel so real and realistically funny to me as a women? But I even like movies that make fun of women written by men when cleverly funny. Like Legally Blond. Shit that’s also by a woman. Well color me surprised. Maybe just maybe there is something to it that you write best about what you actually know? I am by no means saying only women should write movies about women. Look at Harriet. Or Bombshell. Both written by men and I enjoyed both. But the female relationship or feminine bond was not the key and only / key topic of the movie. Maybe that’s where it matters? Or it’s just coincidence. Could be

After the trailer, you couldn't have paid me to watch it.
And yeah, I don't think it's unfair to say these lady comedies tend to feel more natural and work better when they're written by actual ladies. See Bridesmaids, Heat, Booksmart, etc.

After the trailer, you couldn't have paid me to watch it. The title and poster alone were enough for me. The trailer sealed it.
