I never followed that part. Mando was told to bring him back alive, IG-11 was just going to kill him. I know bounties often have different values based on dead vs. alive, but given that they took out the entire compound, what was the reasoning for IG-11 wanting to pop the baby? He could have just walked out with him.

It wasn't explained in the tv show. Given how it was said by Kuiil that a lot of bounty hunters were arriving and heading for that compound, I'm assuming that there are other factions that are aware of of Baby Yoda and want him dead.
Maybe this will be explained in the second season.

The bounty was dead or alive. It was the cloner dude who really wanted baby Yoda alive. But the bounty was good either way.
My guess is IG-11 considered killing the target to be more efficient, since the bounty was good either way.

" Well, if droids could think, there'd be none of us here, would there?" It's all in the Lucas gospel.

They just defeated a small army, they could have walked of there with more money had he not tried to kill it. And since the bounty was good either way, there would still be people coming after them trying to steal it.

In the sense that a dead target won't try to escape and doesn't need to be fed. The show also seems to imply that the "Client" really want the target dead. So who knows what he's told other bounty hunters if he hired them without the cloner dude around?

Then why didn't he kill him as soon as he had the kid? If it was easier to experiment on the kid when he was dead, why not just kill em? I like the show, but that whole part of the show is muddy as fuck.
When did the Client say that? I genuinely don't remember.
