Been listening to her recently I'm surprised she isn't bigger in the US given how massive she is in the UK. Though her discography is variable there's some definite highlights and the overall quality is quite high for pop music. Her debut (not counting the SAW albums) is superb, and is only let down by two long, pointless, club/dance songs in the middle (easily skippable). Her best, by far, is Impossible Princess, which immediately became one of my favorite 90s albums, if not pop albums, period. More than any of her albums it nails that combination of electronic dance pop and organic (piano, strings, guitars, drums, etc.) musicality. Shame the album was mostly a flop, which caused her to focus entirely on dance-pop from then on out.
Still, she had good (if more superficial) results after that. Light Years is basically the album that ignited the new-disco genre (that's still going today), and beyond that it's such a fun, goofy, campy album (can't imagine another pop starlet releasing a song like Love Boat). Though her best of this electronic pop period is Fever, one of the better, most consistent, pop albums of this century. After that the quality becomes more variable but there's some really good stuff scattered around all the later albums (Body Language, X, Aphrodite, Kiss Me Once, Golden). These albums will be well served by a good compilation. I'd say only her debut, Impossible Princess, Fever, and maybe Light years (depending on your tastes) are worth owning individually.
Anyway, feel free to share your own opinions. Here's some of my favorite Kylie tracks:

I like this song
She may not be big in the US but she is still one of the biggest music stars in the world.

Fox in the Snow I'd say her only essential albums are Impossible Princess, S/T, and Fever, in that order. Before I explored her discography I think the only song I'd heard from her was Can't Get You Out of My Head, which had been in several TV shows/commercials. Here's some more I love from that trio of albums: ^ One of the big losses from her later albums is that she abandoned R&B completely, but this song shows she had a knack for it. Probably her best vocal performance. ^ Another thing she lost after Impossible Princess was any dark/moody tracks like this. ^ Still, it's hard to complain too much when she helms great, funky pop like this gem.

Remember hundreds of goths going mad at the Brixton Academy when she walked on stage to sing "where the wild roses grow" with Nick Cave on the murder ballads tour back in '96 (I think) Tiny little thing she is up close.

I'd rather listen to Nickelback than this annoying no-talent "never was" woman.

The numbers say otherwise Her American album sales don't and album sales mean nothing anyways. If music sales are really important, than Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus must be one of the greatest artists of all time.

In her early days I just dismissed her as another PWL product (I now have a little more respect for them now, at least for what they achieved, particularly Waterman when I found out his music history)
I think my opinion changed with Better the Devil You Know
Sounds a little dated now but at the time it was one of those pop songs that just hit you. She has released plenty great tracks since.
Always had a soft spot for the track she did with the Manic Street Preachers (apparently she was the original choice for their track Little Baby Nothing before they offered it to Traci Lords)
Bit of trivia...the guy in the video is Dexter Fletcher...Babface from Bugsy Malone, one of the gang in Lock Stock, and director of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman

If music sales are really important, than Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus must be one of the greatest artists of all time. And of course, America is the centre of the universe. True, sales do not indicate who or what is good or important in music (Nickelback are proof) but a "never was" doesn't sell 80 million records. A "never was" doesn't" draw the biggest viewing figures for a Glastonbury performance. A "never was" doesn't sell out arenas n and have massive records sales over a 30 year period.

Irrelevant, I don't like her music but she is spectacularly good at what she does. To deny her talent is childish and no doubt based on factors such as coolness or other personal beliefs. I think Heavy Metal is the most moronic thing ever touted as music but I'm not stupid enough to believe my opinion is any more valid than anyone elses. If I ruled the world everyone would be listening to Diamada Galas and Throbbing Gristle and they'd be begging for Kylie in a heartbeat.

"Body Language" and "Fever" are my fave albums by her. I still like Impossible Princess the best, followed by S/T and Fever. I like the first half of Body Language but it falls off terribly in the second half. I actually think X is significantly better, despite being really scattershot stylistically. Aphrodite is a pretty killer pop album too; I only put it a notch below Fever, about equal with X.
