St. Louis Cardinals - My slightly older cousin was a fan of the Oakland A's (Canseco, McGwire, Henderson, Stewart, etc). Eventually McGwire was traded, and I started following the Cardinals and started getting attached. Once he retired I considered giving them up and returning to the A's, but decided to "see how this kid made out, he might be good and could be my new favourite player". You all know him as Albert Pujols.
Colorado Avalanche - That same cousin was a fan of the NY Rangers, and I wanted to choose my own team this time. After briefly flirting with the Kings because "I've heard of this Gretzky, maybe he's good?". Then the big trade happened. I was too young to really understand it's complexity, but everyone was saying that the Nordiques were going to be good next season. Bam! I had a new favourite team, that was no one else's favourite team.
Toronto Raptors - Not surprisingly, I was a Bulls/Jordan fan growing up. Then my country got two (2), count 'em, two NBA teams. Only one remained, and I had went to their first-ever preseason game.

As long as a league has a Toronto team then that's the team I support
In the NFL it's the Cowboys, liked their colours and logo and they were the underdog in whatever game I first noticed them in as a kid back in the 70s. This then led me to having the Mavericks as my NBA team once I started paying attention to basketball in the 80s. Threw them under the bus once the Raptors started.
Wasn't really aware of baseball until the Jays came to town but pretty sure I would've aligned myself with the Expos as I still rooted for them to win the NL even after the Jays started.
While I do have a soft spot for the 2 Dallas teams mentioned above I'm not a fan of any of the city's other teams. The Penguins (because of historical family ties near Pittsburgh) is the team I have the most affinity for, even before they got Mario, of teams that compete against a Toronto team in the same league.

I’ve lived in Pittsburgh my whole life so professional sports are such a part of the culture here it was inevitable...but... Pittsburgh Steelers...Around 12 or so, just after the last PGH Dallas Super Bowl, I started getting into watching the games...not long after I got into a fantasy football league (yes, they existed before the internet was a big thing) and my love for the NFL kinda grew over the years with my fandom of the Steelers being at the forefront, but it’s still the one league where I don’t struggle to stay interested in other teams games. Pittsburgh Penguins...I was actually a Pens fan first. It wasn’t hard with people like Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr playing when I was growing up...but then I kinda fell out of hockey in the late 90s when my football adoration sprouted. It took rules changes in the mid 2000s and a young Sidney Crosby to reignite that spark. Pittsburgh Pirates...I am unapologetically a fair weather Pirates fan. I’m not a big fan of baseball as a sport so it takes this team winning to get me interested. Unfortunately that’s only happened like 3 times in the last 20 years so...not much support here from me. Stone Cold Steve Austin...not tapping out to Bret Hart. It was a badass move. What about when Austin turned his back on the WWF and joined the WCW / ECW Alliance? What were your feelings then? He was pretty much a turncoat, no? I wasn't watching then. I kinda lost interest before the WCW folded.

St. Louis Cardinals - I was a big Mark McGwire fan growing up, which made me an A's fan originally, but when McGwire was traded to the Cards I started following them, and have been a fan ever since. Buffalo Bills - The first Super Bowl I watched was the Bills/Giants super bowl. I didn't have a team, so I rooted for the Bills and they became my team. San Antonio Spurs - I got into basketball right around the time that the David Robinson "Mr. Robinson" commercials were airing. He became my favorite player, which made me root for the Spurs. bills eh? nice.
