The movie has a lot of fans. However, most people mention Liam Neeson rather than Bryan Mills. As in, they remember the actor. It's not a surprise. Aside from that monologue, what made the character memorable? That he was a badass pushing 60, which wasn't that common back then (until the movie kickstarted a new trend)? I don't think that's enough to call him a good character. And the action thrillers that Liam has starred in since are so similar that his characters are interchangeable.
After 2 sequels, they decided to make a TV series focusing on a young Bryan Mills. Terrible idea! Now there's nothing that separates him from every other agent/officer in the action/thriller genre! Still, I wanted to give the show a chance. I saw season 1 one as it was airing. Putting aside everything I've said so far, Mills came off as the most boring protagonist I've seen in years. The writing was as generic as it could get. I honestly forgot to watch season 2. I remembered the show existed about a year later, after it had been cancelled. Since shows with new episodes are my priority, I decided to wait until January (the month where I catch up with old shows and movies)... and yeah, I just finished season 2. I hated it a little bit less, because there were less main characters. That meant more focus on their personal subplots, so every character that's not Mills got developed. This also allowed Adam Goldberg and Jennifer Beals to give good performances. Not enough to save what's literally one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but enough to make me imagine a good show that revolves around them.
