Just watched these J-horror vignette homages to the Ju-On films.
Very low budget series of connected stories in the style of The Grudge, complete with the comb flicking sound effect.
Might not be for everyone, but I liked them.
7/10

Thought this round was effectively brutal. I've only watched part 1,& 2, of the Asian series. Plus the American series.
There's also several TV movies as well in the Asian series.

No, it's somebody slowly flicking through the spines of a comb. It is explained on one of the series DVD extras.

Thought this round was effectively brutal. They do like bleak brutal suicides in their horror films. No disappointments in that department with these two films. Is that a Japanese cultural thing? Is suicide really taboo for Japanese people or something? It's a mainstay in their horror films. The story with the stomach face is good 👍

Up to 2005/2006 it has become recognized as a major issue. Japan often has high suicide rates. I wasn't really shocked by the suicide scene as much as... *spoilers* *spoilers* The awful Family massacre. The Teen daughter drenched in Gasoline and set on fire. and poor Grandma trying to divert the Husband from sexually abusing the youngest Daughter before he horrifically murdered her.

Always been curious about the original made for tv films; Ju-on: The Curse. It does get confusing at times with the amount of films, and how they are connected. A couple years ago I watched the two Ju-on films of Masayuki Ochiai (Shutter, Infection). I thought they were sequels to Takashi Shimizu’s Ju-On films with them having 3 and 4 in their film titles, but they just happened to be remake/s of the original story. If I remember correctly they were violently brutal too... although not as atmospheric.

The ‘White Ghost’ story is by far my favourite of the two. ‘Black Ghost’ is entertaining, but ‘White Ghost’ definitely made my skin crawl.

If I remember correctly they were violently brutal too... although not as atmospheric. Living in the states I've only watched the first two "Ju-On" films on streaming. And the American franchise. (I bought "Black/"White ghost" online) The other films from what I gather cost a pretty penny or aren't region 1. Not sure if the TV films are available in the States.

I don’t know if the original tv ju-on films were ever released to DVD, but they’re on YouTube and listed (although I don’t know if available) on Prime video. The likes of Ju-on 3: The Beginning of the End & Ju-on 4: The Final Curse only have region 3 releases. And the latter is a hard one to find, and if so expensive. However both are now on YouTube with English subs. That’s how I saw The Final Curse. The following ju-on/ringu crossover film Sadako vs Kayako got a more favourable treatment... probably because it was higher budget production. Both the ringu and ju-on series sort of mirror each other with their constant films from tv roots, mainstream success and cheapie reboots. Ringu is probably the most convoluted of the two.
