As far as I'm aware, vegan cheeses are not actual cheeses at all, rather they are created using other ingredients to form a taste-likeness. I found this example of a vegan 'Gorgonzola' recipe: Vegan GorgonzolaIt seems to be fine for vegans to consume foods containing bacteria though. We all need our guts populated with the healthy colonies after all.

My question was a bit tongue-in-cheek. One would have to be a pretty radical vegan to refuse to eat bacteria!
