I'm 61 years old. I hate this today's/young people's desire to acronymize everything. The man's name is Jean Luc. Is that too hard to say? Raffi calls him JL. Lazy disrespectful bitch. I have my own business. If any of my employees ever try to acronymize my name, they'll get one warning, and then they're fired. It feels a little overdone, simply because he's never been addressed that way before, but Jesus tap dancing Christ, this has to be one of the dumbest things I've read on the internet today. It's called a nickname, no different than anyone else being called by their initials, like AJ or DD. Get the fuck over yourself.

And it's the sign of laziness and disrespect. Or ignorance and a thoughtless attempt to be hip, cool and part of the latest trendy in-crowd. Get it SG ??

Be quiet grandad, see that was a sign of disrespect as I used your age to call you something to mock you, also isn't an acronym when you take initials to make a word to refer to someone/something as in PETA or NASA, JL is initialism as it's not making a new word to refer to him as.
Depending on where you are from calling him Jean Luc, Jean or just Picard can be considered disrespectful depending on the relationship the two people have, or the personality of the one calling them such a name, you don't like it, great but no one gives a shit.

So I suppose you thought any of the times Benjamin Sisko was referred to as simply "Ben" was disrespectful? Or him referring to Jadzia or Ezri (or Curzon) as "Old Man" was disrespectful? How about calling William Riker "Will"? After all, it's not their actual names. I suppose HG Wells had low self-esteem to insult himself? DC Fontana? JK Rowling? EE Cummings? TS Eliot? JRR Tolkein must have had an extra level of disrespect for himself to use three initials. FDR, JFRK - so much disrespect..... 🙄

Apparently you and stargazer "give a shit". Otherwise neither of you would have taken the time to reply to my posts.

So if they are calling themselves by their initials, that's a personal choice. I've never heard Picard call himself "JL". I would never be so presumptuous if I ever met JFK or FDR in person, to call them "JF" or "FD". Matter of fact, I wouldn't call HG Wells "HG". I would call him "Mr. Wells" --- out of respect.

To be specific "JL" are his initials. But I was talking in general about this current trend of acronomizing everything.

I'm looking at the Producers of this show . Well I'm only going to mention Alex Kurtzman , who is 46 , and Producer-in-Charge of Star Trek , and has $46 million in the bank . And that says it all . This Series , Picard , is made specifically for a much younger demographic , about 20-40 as well teasing in the teenagers , and also hoping to hook some old fans too . I think most of the commentors on IMDB2 here who are viewing are 45+-70+ with that attitude .
Dear Old Patrick Stewart seems to be croaking and wheezing his way through these episodes . The question , on my mind is , is he going to make it to the end of the first Season at all ? Well , is Raffi or Seven going to provide the extra energy (wink wink) he is going to need to make it to episode 10 . Left on his own or to his own devices , he is going to wander off and get drunk . And his assistants , Orla and Jamie , are going to have to rescue him , and take him home to Chateau Picard , to spend the rest of his days sloshed with his pitbull , No 1 . Or is Deanna Troi (she appears later) going to provide the much needed balm (psychological and arthritic cream) to keep him going till the end of Season 1 ?

I agree. But it's still better than Discovery.

It's my understanding that the teens and twenties demographic is where the money is.

I knew things would be different when I first started to hear the foul language on the show. You never heard this stuff on TNG.

The best episodes so far, at least in my opinion, have been the first episode, the one where they go to Freecloud, and the latest one with Picard reuniting with Troi and Riker.

The kind of reunion that Luke, Han and Leia should have had in the Star Wars sequel trilogy:

Yes , it wasn't bad was it , ck100 !
Just like Picard and Kirk in The Nexus (Generations 1994). Clever staging and dialogue.. Will Riker as he always does helping his best friend , the confused Jean-Luc , with his down-to-earth advice and kitchen metaphors . And his loving wife , Deanna , always willing to help those in need and trouble .
Soji , so much the descendant of Data , in look and way of thinking .
Elnor is confronted by his nemesis , the evil and cruel Narissa of the Zhat Vash .
Dr Jurati realising she's been used as a pawn , making the ultimate sacrifice .
And , who is the mysterious Captain Crandall ?

I think the best acting performance by any on this show so far, is by Isa Briones. The lady who plays Dahj and Soji.
