With all his revisions, I don't know why he's never gone back to that stilted lightsaber fight.

That would never work if they tried to integrate it into the film. It's cool as a one-off Youtube video though....

I'm fully fine with ANH's SE revisions, most of which are backgrounds, colours, & more visually appealing planets & Tatooine.
ROTJ SE on the other hand is a full miss.

I actually love the original lightsaber fight in Episode 4. I like the simplicity of it. There's a lot of emotion in that fight as well. The reason its slower paced and lacks gymnastics of the other episodes is due to them originally envisioning lightsabers to be heavier (requiring two hands and great strength to wield one), and for the fights to be more in style of the old Japanese samurai movies Lucas liked when he was young. It wasn't until Luke started training to be a Jedi with Yoda in Episode 5 that the gymnastics started getting added into the movement of Force users - we see a bit of this training being put into practice when Luke fights Vader in the carbonite freezing chamber. Luke becomes more fluid in his movement during that fight. Then we really get to see it when Luke back flips during his fight in the throne room in Episode 6. The pace and of the fight in 6 is way faster than the one in Episode 4 as well. The PT of course built on all that years later.

In addition to that, they were trying to use an "in camera" effect at the time. The props used for this were so fragile, the actors could only lightly tap them together when acting out the duel. That also limited the choreography at the time....
