Heather Graham
Heather Joan Graham was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 29, 1970. Graham is a model, dancer, pianist, actress and filmmaker. A precocious grade 'A' student, she studied literature at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Graham recently wrote and directed her first feature, 'Half Magic' (2018). Her sister is actress Aimee Graham, whom a young Quentin Tarantino singled out alongside Nina Siemaszko as one of the most gifted performers in indie cinema.
Filmmaker David Lynch directed a highly stylised Calvin Klein commercial featuring Graham and Benicio Del Toro that was deemed to be a masterpiece of slick advertising. This was shortly after Graham had been pursued by filmmaker Michael Lehmann to portray one of the Heathers clique in 'Heathers' (1988), a role that instead befell Lisanne Falk when Graham's conservative Catholic parents refused to consent to their daughter's casting. Upon reaching adulthood, Graham defied her guardians and signed on to shoot Gus Van Sant's controversial crime picture 'Drugstore Cowboy' (1989), arguably the finest film ever made about prescription drug usage and its ties to the criminal underworld. Graham took up transcendental meditation and yoga, disciplines she practises to this day (as does friend and mentor Lynch). She's also acted in some high profile television shows (she played Annie Blackburn in Lynch and Mark Frost's groundbreaking crime drama 'Twin Peaks').
"I feel like directing was taking this amazing drug, which was scary and stressful, but I’ve gotta take that drug again because it was so good. I hope I get to do it again. There are so many factors. It’s easier to get an acting job than to get a directing project greenlit."
