Itβs reportedly taking inspiration from The Meg (2018). Oh lord, I smell a crossover in the works. Oh and Evan Daugherty is writing it? Thatβs promising. Even if I did like Snow White and the Huntsman. movieweb.com/anaconda-remake-writer-evan-daugherty/Ugh, but the original is a classic slice of β90s cheese. And theyβll never top the ludicrous yet sublime casting either. Unless Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez come back in cameo roles...

I mean, more giant snake movies can't be a bad thing, right? So long as they aren't of the SyFy/Asylum variety.
I'm going to take a wait and see approach with this. We are well overdue for a good b-movie/monster movie comeback.

I'm sure this is happening to piggy back on the moderate success of Crawl. I liked Crawl, but I wasn't aware it had any substantial success. This smells to me more of studios exploiting whatever recognizable IP they have laying around. If it leads to a trend of fun monster/creature features, then I'm on board.

They could do it better but even then, whatβs the point of having a reboot when weβve had so many ripoffs that followed?

I don't think it was substantial. I think it did ok, but did much better critically than anyone expected. Oh, it definitely is about exploiting a previously owned IP, but I think this IP specifically has a precedent for recent success now. I don't think it's a coincidence that this remake that nobody was asking for is going ahead at this time.

Jon Voight made that movie fun to watch.
"Baby bird."

Jon Voight made that movie fun to watch. "Baby bird." Maybe he can come back and this time play the snake. He definitely had it down pat. His flickering facials, and slivering actions were way more convincing than whenever the cgi snake was on screen.

That sat on the shelf for a couple of years, I believe. Not sure of Crawl had anything to do with the timing of that release, as it was likely scheduled a while ago, but maybe it had something to do with it getting a wide theatrical run instead of just being dumped on VOD or Amazon or something like those movies sometimes do. Either way, it didn't amount to much.

Anaconda is one of the great bad movies of all time and its magic can't be replicated.

Either way, it didn't amount to much. I had no idea it was shelved for a period. Like Anonymous Andy mentioned, I would love to see this sort of studio produced creature-feature genre ignite again... but I guess βUnderwaterβ lack of success won't be a good endorsement for it. Still Iβm a sucker for underwater horror, and in spite of its lacklustre ticket sales - it seems to have decent ratings/reviews. Probably check it out sometime next week.

No remake will ever find a way to match the sneer factor of Jon Voight

Anaconda is one of the great bad movies of all time and its magic can't be replicated. Owen Wilson's and Jon Voight's deaths crack me up every time i see them.
