I never liked Tyson when he fought. Yes he was a devastating puncher but he got his career by opening up tomato cans. Overrated morons like Marvis Frazier who thought it was a good idea to stand toe to to with Tyson. Douglas used his reach, exposed the fatal defect in Iron Mike (short arms) and beat him. But he was good for boxing and I wish he had a better career. Ray Leonard was the only fighter I hated worse. I respected Sugar Ray but he got so many gift decisions. Hagler beat him and lost (one judge scored it 10-2!). Hearns thumped him and it was a draw (even Ray said he was beaten).
Boxing need this to be an epic fight. Another Ali-Frazier I or Hagler-Hearns. If it's a clinch fest, a Mayweather-esque points show or a poor decision, its can set boxing back, maybe forever
I get that - that his first 20 or so fights were against tomato cans
But after winning the belt against Berbick (I'm reading his first career list off of Wiki now) - 'Bonecrusher' Smith, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tucker, Tyrell Biggs, Larry Holmes (yes I know on the downside of his career like some of these guy), Tony Tubbs, Spinks, Bruno, Carl 'The Truth' Williams were respectable above average heavyweights, no? These were his fights after winning the title vs. Berbick and before he dropped it to Douglas.
I always thought his fights with Ruddock were entertaining as hell
The Holyfield fights IMO came 5 years too late - I'd love to see what would have happened if it was before Mike went to prison
After the last Holyfield fight it was pretty much over for him - but loved when he beat up the bully Andrew Golota and Golota actually quit and got trash thrown at him on his way out of the ring.
He's one of my favorite athletes because I find his story incredibly fascinating - he's a polarizing figure
There was nothing quite like watching those early Tyson fights on HBO back in the late 80's. Yeah, they didn't last long, but young Tyson was like an animal in a cage. The bell rang, you opened up the cage door, and minutes later there was a dead carcus lying in the middle of the ring. In my younger days (70's, 80s,90s) boxing was great. Hasn't really done much for me since that time.

Hell - maybe even before that when Tyson was walking to the ring in all black.
You could see the fear in the other boxers eyes.
Like the hyped Michael Spinks fight - he looked petrified.

Spinks was petrified. So was Marvis Frazier. Other than Foreman, he might have been the scariest HW ever. But Buster wasn’t. Whether it was his mother dying or because he had a plan, who can say. But he wasn’t a beaten man before the bell rang. i love boxing, hate MMA. I’d like to see it come back and it can

Do you remember about 5 or so years ago there was all of this hype over the PBC?
They'd air matches primetime on Saturday Nights on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN - I was so excited.
They pretty much made Keith Thurman a name and used to air some of Adrien Broner's matches too.
What happened with that?
Was it a ratings disaster and pulled or am I just not paying attention and it's still aired on the very rare occasion?

Curious to see how Fury would have fared against the likes of the Klitscko Brothers and Lennox Lewis in their primes I get he beat Wladimir - but this was at the end of his career and it went all 12 rounds. Anybody know where you'd put in terms of heavyweights - obviously he's not in the class of the 70s fighters - i.e. Foreman, Frazier, Ali, etc.
What about 80s fighters like Holmes, Tubbs, Berbick, Weaver, Dokes?
Think he could have hung in there with the 90s fighers? Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe? I think he'd be a step below these guys too - kind of like a Frank Bruno type.
Maybe I'm biased - I think I'd put all the above above him - but truth be told I've only Youtubed 70s and 80s fights.

Absolute masterclass from Fury. He changed trainers, bulked up an extra stone and trained to get a stoppage since he felt he wouldn't get a points decision in America. Anyone who has followed his career knows he is a quality pugilist, his hit and move craft served him well, very much like the great Lennox. Yet he had to adapt to a different strategy to win here and prove that Wilder is indeed a one trick pony, so he came forward relentlessly (in the way the awesome Holyfield used to), and Wider simply couldn't cope as Fury used those 19 stone anvils to devastating effect.
Fury is a truly great boxer, across the board, he might well have been a prick in the past with some of his views, but he has come through adversity, turned everything around and now the heavyweight division has a champion worthy of the title - lets not forget Wilder taunted Fury about previous mental health issues... If I was Wilder I seriously wouldn't take the third fight option, he should accept his day has gone and go make some money by fighting Ruiz and the like and maybe one punch his way to a title vacated by a retiree or a vacant step aside job.
As for where we go from here, I honestly don't see Joshua living with Fury, and with Joshua having two mandatories to fight, unless he gives up a belt to fight Fury? - then there will not be a unified title fight, which will be a shame because the heavyweight division could do with it. But god bless Fury, a lot of people expected him to fall on his face, and like him or not, he has given the division a right shot in the arm.

But god bless Fury, a lot of people expected him to fall on his face, and like him or not, he has given the division a right shot in the arm. And now we hit on the flaw in boxing. The Alphabet soup of governing bodies that rule. Fury-Joshua would be the biggest fight in years. Lewis-Tyson, maybe even bigger than that. Someone having all four belts. Whatever happens after (the four organizations would pull it apart), you would have one moment of and undisputed champion. Boxing, the HW division in particular, is having a resurgence. Fury-Joshua would further that. No one gives a rat's ass for Fury-Pulev. But the WBWhatever will be selfish. So the best we can hope for is Fury-Wilder III. Beats the hell out of either one fighting Andy Ruiz.

Fury-Wilder III is on. Whee
You can Google it, but Wilder is laying some of the blame on his costume. Really? You train for months and you get tuckered out lugging a 40 pound costume a few yards?

I mean - we'd have a draw, a Fury win and a Wilder win.
We'd need at least one more to settle the score, no?

Free treat tonight on ESPN Lomachenko vs. Lopez Unification bout - WBA, WBO, Ring Magazine, IBF Lightweight titles on the line Lomachenko fights are always a treat. I'm surprised you enjoy him, as I would have thought you saw him as a tiny little vanilla midget. Technically not a unification match, but that shouldn't diminish the fight at all. Get ready, round 1 within the hour!

really impressive win by Lopez as he upsets Lomachenko
he becomes the youngest ever to hold 4 belts at the same time in the same weight class
there's only like 4 of them or so to do this - one of my favorites from Philly did this - Bernard Hopkins
