Or at least in development. The original director Richard Donner and the original leads Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are returning.
"We're trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner's coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it's just amazing. The story is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it's about the script."

Lol, I WASN'T sure IF RD was STILL ALIVE or NOT!! They're probably hoping it to be the next Mad Max: Fury Road or something. Maybe Bad Boys for Life doing well can generate more traction for it.

Odds the plot involves Riggs uncovering a plot by the Jews to start all the world's wars? You know, because of Gibson's anti-Semitism.

I'm a huge fan of the franchise, and Donner is one of my favorite directors, but I'm not sure about this. I thought the fourth installment was a nice way to end the saga, no need to muck it up twenty plus years later. And having just seen Glover in the Jumanji sequel, there's no way that guy is going to be able to do any action scenes at all.

Odd decision considering the sense of finality that came with the last installment. Stop with the unnecessary sequels already. I don't need great grandpa Riggs & Murtaugh solving crimes at the retirement home.

Wouldn't a 25 years later sequel to National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 (1993) be a good idea since they could find a lot to parody in all these decades later action sequels ?

We're at a point where many actors (and directors) we saw growing up (or for our whole life) are getting old and everybody tries to make a buck with the last opportunities before everyone retires for good. In the past few years, Rocky passed the torch on to a new Creed, Rambo has buried his last family member and is done, Shaft retired and his son took his place, Han Solo is dead and the Terminator finally shut down.
To a lesser extent the Bad Boys are done, Maverick might be on his last flight hours, most guys who led the Avengers since the beginning are out, the original Ghostbusters cast (minus Ramis and Moranis) will appear in what will quite likely be their last time with that franchise, another Mad Max has been announced, which is supposed to be a prequel to Fury Road (to make the link and the passage of the torch between the two generations probably) and Barney Ross might do one more mission with his Expendable crew.
Like the other movies, I'll watch for nostalgia more than anything else, even if it's pretty average.

Lol, I WASN'T sure IF RD was STILL ALIVE or NOT!! I've looked it up. The guy turns 90 this year! I guess he must be in good enough health to be capable of directing another movie.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but at least they're not going the Die Hard route by hiring some young hack like Len Wiseman to direct this. It's nice to see the whole team returning.
