I’m very happy to hear the official news. I’m curious to see where there will be cuts. I wonder if some of the cast will be trimmed. The cast numbers have been increasing again and I wonder what kind of pay cuts they’ll have to take. I can’t see Stephen Nichols agreeing to anymore pay cuts.

I’m kind of surprised. I guess this contract release and long break went a long way to ensuring the renewal and saving costs.
56 years is crazy!

I don't know, this seems like the third "official" announcement of the renewal in the last few months. I mean, word first broke that it was being renewed within a week or two of the hysteria over the contract thing, then a few weeks after it was confirmed, I swear by someone with the network, though they did preface that some details were still being worked out. And here we are again with it being "official". Have there been sources suggesting new budget cuts? I didn't see anything in the OP specifying. I can't imagine how much more there'd be to cut at this point. They need to go any deeper, they should seriously considering cutting back to say, just four episodes a week. Not an idea plan, but if they're in that dire a straights, better that than cutting even more corners on the already low production values; or dicking around with the cast again.

Budget-wise, my guess is with them ending everyone's contracts, they probably re-signed a lot of people at a cheaper rate so that probably made a big dent in the budget. This situation gives them a lot of leverage that they may not have otherwise had when renegotiating one-by-one. P.S. It looks like filming resumes next week.

I just read that production starts next week again as well. I find that funny since an article on TV Line said that production would resume in early March. Also, on Freddie Smith’s podcast, he said production wouldn’t be able to resume until the end of February since the writers haven’t even started writing stories yet since production shut down. Maybe production resumes next week but filming doesn’t begin until March???

Also, on Freddie Smith’s podcast, he said production wouldn’t be able to resume until the end of February since the writers haven’t even started writing stories yet since production shut down. Maybe production resumes next week but filming doesn’t begin until March??? It's hard to say, there seems to be a lot of conflict information; and certainly a lot of it is just idle speculation that then doesn't pan out. At least one of Freddie's podcasts earlier this month talked about how there was this expectation of them all being back filming sometime in January, but even he was skeptical about that timetable, since they hadn't yet re-signed everybody; which in turn meant the writers hadn't gone back to work, since they couldn't write anything if they didn't know for certain who all would be back. Then of course when it first got reported that the cast were going on hiatus, back before it gone blown out of proportion, there was at least one article I saw that suggested that a major purpose of the hiatus was distinctly to burn off as much of the excess episodes as possible, so that production wouldn't be so far ahead of what was being aired; and that they wanted to get to being only around 3 months ahead. Subsequent reports said it was solely because what they had been shot took them close to the end of their contract with NBC, but those reports also assumed production would resume as early as January or whenever word came down that it was renewed. Production resuming in March would probably still support that; and it may just be that it took longer to iron out some details for the renewal than was originally expected.
