Convo on the sports board got me thinking...
George Romeros flicks... Night of the Living Dead The Crazies Dawn of the Dead Day of the Dead
Slap Shot...best hockey movie ever. The Deer Hunter (1978) Robocop...The steel works scenes mostly. Gung Ho...Michael Keaton rocks. The Silence of the Lambs....I go canoeing near Buffalo Bills house in this film. Groundhog Day...ive actually never been to Punxie for Groundhog day despite living like an hour away....one of these years. Striking Distance...currently working near the bridge Jimmy jumps off of in the beginning, right below Polish Hill. Sudden Death...Go Penguins!!! Kingpin...I drank below the bowling alley they filmed some of this in. The lower half is a bar currently called Whoville. 10th and Wolf...decent crime flick filmed in Southside Pgh, which features about a million bars in a 20 block stretch. Adventureland...KENNYWOOD!!! Been there dozens of times. Mostly as a youth. Thunderbolt is the sh-t. Shes Out of My League...Alice Eve is too hot to have ever been this close to me. The Dark Knight Rises....Hines Ward woot woot!! City of Bridges and Bane blew em all up. Southpaw...filmed right across the street from me, pretty much. Traffic was a pain.

I live in Santa Cruz.....
The Lost Boys Sudden Impact Chasing Mavericks Killer Klowns from Outer Space Us
There may be others, but those are the ones I know for sure.
I was born and raised in a town in Rhode Island that was very close to Mystic, Ct.
Mystic Pizza was filmed there and also has a couple of shots of my hometown.
Even though Jaws was filmed in Martha's Vineyard, it really captures the feel of the beach town I came from.

Practically nothing has been shot in my hometown. I thought the Fly 2 shot a scene on the waterfront but IMDB doesn't mention it. X-Files episodes. Buster Keaton's last film, a short Canadian travelogue the Railrodder shot the ending in my hometown by the beach. The Day the Earth Stood Still remake seems to have shot here but I haven't seen it.

I looked up a list of movies made in Chicago and there are a lot of them, so I will just list my favorites.
16 Candles Men Don't Leave (had no idea) Ordinary People The Fury Damien: Omen 2 Looking for Mr. Goodbar The Gore Gore Girls
special mention to "Natural Born Killers", which I actually did not like much, but I was seeing this guy in the late 90s (he grew up in Chicago) and he told me the time he went to the well known "Berlin" nightclub and who should be there but Juliette Lewis, Woody Harrelson and Oliver Stone! I can't remember what he said about Woody, but he said that Oliver Stone was sitting at the bar, near passed out drunk and that Juliette Lewis was out on the dance floor, mixing with the crowd, dancing her head off and having the best time! He actually got to hang out with her that night and he said she was the most fun person. Ohhhh, my beating heart, please stop... Can I just say that I think that this is of such unbelievable coolness and I would have anticipated nothing less from Juliette Lewis, whom I adore to bits. Juliette Lewis is the real deal.

Most films that deal with the space program have at least some footage at the Johnson Space Center.

What Lies Beneath (2000) has a memorable scene with a bridge that I drove over hundreds of times on my way to Vermont. It was condemned in 2009 and demolished the following year.
Friday the 13th (1980) was filmed about fifteen miles or so from where I grew up in New Jersey. Some of the scenes were shot at a place called Ghost Lake on Shades of Death Road. I knew the area somewhat.
Mr. North (1988) was filmed in Newport, Rhode Island while I was living there. I spent a little time near the set and saw Lauren Bacall, Robert Mitchum and Anthony Edwards. After they wrapped up a day's shooting, Mitchum waved to us as he drove off in a Model A Ford.

The only thing I remember with the X-Files is talking to some kids in the neighborhood who went to the filming area and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's autographs. This was first season and before the show really started to get popular.

"The first thing I thought was this script is a piece of shit!"Ha! Ha! So funny. But to add to the story, Betsy's car had just conked out on her and she was in the market to get herself a new Jeep. She found one she liked and the price of the jeep was $10,000, which was the exact offer the producers had made for her to do the movie. So she did it and she got her new Jeep! I love it when stuff like that happens! You don't even have to think about your decision. All the hard work is done for you!

There was a 1978 television movie starring Johnny Cash ("Thaddeus Rose and Eddie") that was partially shot in my home town. Also, an off-the-assembly line WWII drama ("Aerial Gunner") was shot at the air base that was located there in the 40's. More recently, 'Spring Breakdown' a direct to dvd disaster starring Parker Posey, Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler was partially shot on South Padre Island (though parts of it clearly were shot elsewhere).

I looked up a list of movies made in Chicago and there are a lot of them, so I will just list my favorites. 16 Candles Men Don't Leave (had no idea) Ordinary People The Fury Damien: Omen 2 Looking for Mr. Goodbar The Gore Gore Girls special mention to "Natural Born Killers", which I actually did not like much, but I was seeing this guy in the late 90s (he grew up in Chicago) and he told me the time he went to the well known "Berlin" nightclub and who should be there but Juliette Lewis, Woody Harrelson and Oliver Stone! I love Natural Born Killers Mr. Dirty. What is it you don't like about it? I know you like Harrelson and Lewis. Stone's brand of showmanship just doesn't appeal to me. And the gleeful nastiness was too much for me to take. I am not necessarily anti-self indulgence, but just don't like him much. I did like "Midnight Express" and I think Stone penned that one. But that movie rode out on Giorgio Moroder's score alone. I didn't like "Platoon", either. The only movie of his I half way liked was "The Hand". I would, however, like to see "Wall Street" and am thinking I would probably enjoy that one. Yes, I like Woody (cutie pie and aging nicely) and of course I love Juliette.
