You're right. I should have specified. There are alternatives to the heaven or hell dichotomy. Don't the Catholics have Limbo? Never heard a priest speak about Limbo to be honest. Clusium is Catholic and clarified the Catholic word for me - Purgatory. The priests don't talk about Purgatory?

The thought of existing forever in any form is scarier to me than one day not existing. I'm GLAD that I WILL live on FOREVER (BUT HOPEFULLY in Heaven and NOT in Hell)!!! AND so WILL EVERYONE ELSE whether they WANT to, OR NOT!! There's NOTHING YOU NOR ANYONE ELSE CAN DO ABOUT IT! So YOU BETTER just get USED TO IT.

Every once-in-awhile we PRAY for the SOULS in Purgatory. They NEVER talk about Limbo since it PROBABLY DOESN'T exist as Heaven, Purgatory and Hell ALL three DO EXIST!

No I'm a bit confused. Are Purgatory and Limbo different places? , they ARE two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, SEPARATE and DISTINCT places. PLUS, Purgatory EXISTS and Limbo MAY or MAY NOT EXIST and MOST-PROBABLY DOESN'T.

The concept of afterlife extends further beyond the existence of a heaven and a hell though.

No I'm a bit confused. Are Purgatory and Limbo different places? You are being too literal. Nobody knows exactly what happens after one dies. Religion is faith based. Not fact based. People believe in religion based on faith. Not knowledge or facts. Whatever stories religions tell to teach faith need not be exact. Just conceptual.

The Catholic Church, religion and faith are three different things. I believe in God. I have religion. I don't belong to any church. Religion and faith are personal. The Catholic Church is a religious social group. If there is a God and a Heaven, God's not going to care what church you belong to. He's only going to care about your personal actions, thoughts and beliefs. If there is a God and a Heaven, churches and religions don't go to Heaven. Only individuals do.

But we were talking about Limbo and Purgatory, those are Catholic concepts. I was raised Catholic. But I'm not anymore. They have lots of stupidity. But with all due respect, their constructs are conceptual. Nobody is supposed to take them literally. I know lots of Catholics do. Even some in the Church. But that's because they lack the mental ability to see things conceptually. Nobody knows for sure. Most Catholics understand this. And also, specifics are there for children. Children generally lack the mental ability to conceptualize. If one waits until a person is old and smart enough to conceptualize, it's already too late for most. And for those who are just stupid, it's better to have a dumb person fear God, than be immoral.

If church doctrine holds there is a Purgatory for souls to work off their sins, and there is a Limbo where unbaptized infants and pagans go, how is that "conceptual" and not literal? Nothing I've read from Catholic theologians suggests that.

That's quite literal.

I don't think Thomas Aquinas and Saint Augustine were stupid people. Many intelligent people believe this stuff.
