I understand what toasted cheese is getting at though. when you're asleep time goes by in a Flash it's like it never happened so when you die it really isn't like the world is going on without you because it's like you're asleep. basically a billion years will pass like a Flash and everyone will actually be gone as well. When you die the world dies too But time doesn't go by in a flash when you're asleep. When you're asleep the word does indeed go on without you, just as before. even when you're alive the world goes on without you though what if you're a hermit or you live underground in a bunker. you're alive but the world still going on without you I don't think that's a bad thing about death. The only negative thing about death is it's the end of your life. and you don't know for sure that the world is going on without you what if right after you die a huge astroid hits the Earth? and if it bothers you that the world's going on when your dead are you saying the ideal death would be the world ending and that's how you die?

When you die, that's it? And would you rather go to hell than not exist? Now that’s a good question. I have no faith and am very much afraid there is nothing after death and that scares me a lot. I would love it if something existed. But I guess I wouldn’t opt for Hell over nothing because eternal suffering just sounds real bad . I do like the idea of a god I just can’t bring myself to believing in it.. Just believe in yourself Nora, because after all you are your own god creator. Why live your life in fear of something that you are going to lose, when what you fear you will lose, will still be right there along with you all along. It is your power of creation that surrounds and envelopes you, it is your stand and your mastery that makes you the being you are and that is a wondrous thing.....

How do you know if you are not aware of it? You are only waking back up into the illusion of real and the mind games that we all play regarding the perception of this. The secret is in how you navigate through it. If you didn't wake up, you wouldn't and possibly couldn't be aware of this dream of creation of yours. When you are dreaming—if you do—do you feel that is real at the time until you wake up into your conscious world of the illusion of real?

Destruction has to happen for rebirth and regrowth. It is sad that the majority of people can only see life as matter, when they can't grasp the subtler aspects of how consciousness and mind is all interconnected with all and everything. If one doesn't think of something or someone, it can't possibly exist, until our minds\thoughts bring it into the fruition of creation. Theist fools think that some external God thing is doing it for them and atheist fools think that matter is doing it for them, without realizing they are working through and within the matter themselves.

Well the world isn't without you when you're alive. You may not actually be affecting it, but you're still part of it. I really don't get why people want to argue this point. Literally all I'm saying is that the world is here now with you in it, and then after you're dead you're not in it anymore and the world will still be here, still full of people who will carry on without you. Ultimately your death won't make any real difference to the world, or even to most of the people who knew you. You're just not that important. I can only guess that people are arguing against this because they don't like that idea... which is exactly the point I was making. Good lord, why are people talking such utter nonsense about this? It really is surreal.

I don't claim to be enlightened or anything, I've just moved past this whole idea of fearing the unknown. I'm not afraid of dying or being dead, I'm only afraid of dying in some brutal painful way. Our bodies are physical so I'd rather not be torn apart by metal scraps or animal teeth or burned alive or be shot while I'm just trying to watch a movie in peace-- but simply being dead is fine. Many of us are adults here, we've had plenty of family and friends die, and it's painful but then we move on, and that's how it is to be dead too.
in regards to the afterlife, I'm not really afraid of any outcome either. I'm so far from the religious teachings I grew up learning that the idea of Heaven and Hell don't really scare me. Death being lights out doesn't scare me either. But how confident are you that both aren't true? If we are spirit confined to flesh, why wouldn't the memories and identity of the flesh be left behind when we move into the next plain of existence? Why would we be any more displeased with our next destination than we were having been born where and when we were born in this life? Perhaps the things in "Hell" aren't evil demons, but simply the residents of the place they exist, and same with heaven, or any other plain of existence that might be.

Given what's shown in the world for those who can see it... -Eucharistic Miracles -Our Lady of Guadalupe(image from the year 1531) -Our Lady of Las Lajas(image on a rock from 1754) -Fatima (Miracle of the Sun on Oct 13th 1917) -St. Pio (1887-1968) etc ...and a little experience myself. NOTE: it's basically through prayer a certain sin was removed from my life I thought was impossible to escape which gave me a solid boost that God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)) is real. even before that happened, I always believed in God but when something like that happens it just makes it that much more real. I am confident it's real You clearly don't grasp the concept of hell all that well given that comment. to be crystal clear... it goes without saying one would prefer not to exist than to be in hell given the level of eternal suffering there (as in no good exists whatsoever as nothing but hate/misery exist there as you can't love anything etc etc and the pain/suffering here on earth (no matter what one experiences here on earth) pales in comparison to the pain/suffering in hell... ...but one does not have a choice as ones final destination is either in Heaven with God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)) or in hell with satan. that's why you make sure your right with God now. at least... try avoid sin, especially serious sin. so basically... regular prayer (as in daily prayer) is not optional but required if one is going to have a chance to avoid sin and love a more holy life as without that it's like trying to do it on your own without God's help, it won't end well, as like Jesus Christ said, 'Without Me you can do nothing'. so don't wait until it's too late NOTE: noticed I said 'final' destination as I said that because for those of us who don't end up in hell, Purgatory is likely before eventually reaching Heaven. basically Purgatory is a temporary state one pays for their sins (through suffering) before eventually reaching Heaven. like if you end up in Purgatory, your guaranteed Heaven eventually. but if you end up in hell, that's it, it's forever. but from what I understand... those who end up in hell, basically did it to themselves by living a life of sin and rejecting God to the point where even if they were given a second chance, they would reject it. that's why one needs to be right with God in this life as once you pass from this life into the next, your choice is fixed in favor of God (i.e. Heaven) or against Him (i.e. you end up in hell). it's possible for one to go straight to Heaven but it's unlikely because it's pretty safe to say a high percentage of us are not perfectly pure to immediately enter Heaven upon death here on earth. basically it's difficult for us to not be attached to at least some level of venial(mild)sin/self. so you can choose to be ruled by your passions/flesh, which leads to death(as in death of the soul(as in you(which is your soul) end up in hell forever)), or you can feed your soul, through the Sacraments/daily prayer etc, which gives your eternal soul(as in gives it strength(grace) from God) to live a more holy life and avoid sin etc. prayer etc, like I was saying, feeds the soul to fight back against the disordered passions of the flesh. Schwarzwald Magnus That's a bad way of looking at it as by then it's too late to do anything. we know there is life after death given Christianity(especially Catholic) but many choose to ignore it because they don't want to change their lives etc.

It appears you are only thinking that those that have passed and perhaps seeing it as what is being missed out on, due to your own 'current' life conscious experience. You can't possibly know what the deceased are missing out on and when you pass, what you believe exists will no longer exist either. How in gay hell can it still exist anymore once you aren't the witnesser to your lifetime? That does then make it surreal.

being dead is not what is scary what's scary is thinking about the few moments before you die. you're going to think about all the stuff you're gonna miss out on. The weird thing is realising that the world is going to go on without you, and your absence really won't make a noticeable difference. Even those who know you, most of them are going to be like "Oh man, that sucks" and maybe sad for a bit... and then they'll just get on with their lives and you'll just be that guy they knew who died. I just felt like popping back here to try and understand just how controversial this reply is.

Some of ya'll need to get ready 'cuz there's a lot of nothing coming up for you!
In my heart I wish there was a place we could all go to that was like a paradise, where I could meet up with all my loved ones, friends, and pets, in their prime and be happy forever more. But in my mind I'm pretty sure there's just nothing.
And that scares some people. Absolute nothing is hard to understand. For our entire lives there's always been something. But think of it like this: You don't have all your memories. No one remembers what they did when they were 3 years old and earlier. Think back real hard. You know you were there, and you may have been told stories about then, but can you actually remember it for yourself? Its like... nothing.
You're not scared of not having those memories are you? Its like that.

I am more afraid of reincarnation.
I remember this movie--Made in Heaven-where the guy wants to reincarnate so he can find this woman he met in heaven - there was something creepy as hell about him being reborn and having to endure a bad childhood just so he might encounter her later.

No heaven nor hell? Oh goody goody now I can get a nice long sleep. Or does that just mean we become ghosts or get reincarnated? You're right. I should have specified. There are alternatives to the heaven or hell dichotomy. Don't the Catholics have Limbo? Never heard a priest speak about Limbo to be honest.
