Just watched this...
Jim Jarmusch pulls together a very impressive ensemble cast, and does the zombie apocalypse in a small town.
Polar fracking tilts the Earth out of kilter, and bad stuff happens, most notably a zombie apocalypse.
Some interesting characters, and a nice slow burn. Kind of reminiscent of things like TV series 'Northern Exposure'.
Loads of nods to the genre, and to the modern social mileu, eg. climate change deniers, and a hick farmer wearing a red baseball cap which reads 'Keep America white again'.
I enjoyed all that about it. And it's far superior to other modern zom-coms like 'Zombieland', and 'Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse'.
But here's the rub... They break the 4th wall towards the end. I don't like that... Nor the final scene with Tilda Swinton.
Still, a very respectable 8/10 from me...

I enjoyed Adam Driver's dry humored breaking of the fourth wall. Heck, I enjoyed the entire picture.

I've heard extremely mixed things about this movie. I can usually do ok with Jim Jarmusch, so I'll give it a shot eventually. When I first saw the trailer I was intrigued because of Jarmusch doing a horror comedy, and his first rate cast, but then the reviews were terrible and the audience response was all over the place, so I didn't make it a priority for the theater.

I like Jarmusch, so I was ready to love this...but I was kinda bored and was slightly disappointed that it wasn't more of a traditional zombie flick with laughs. I didn't really laugh either. Not long after I saw his vampire movie, Only Lovers Left Alive and really loved it, go figure.
