LORD OF THE FLIES 1963 4/10 In LORD OF THE FLIES 1990, the characters are kids who attend a military school so, from the beginning, they're already in touch with their aggressive side. That goes against the point of William Golding's novel: Even innocent people (like kids who attend a regular school and are part of a choir) can become savages (if you've gone to a mall on Black Friday, then you already knew that). Since the story focuses on the most basic characteristics humans have, there has been a downside in every incarnation. You see, while the characters' actions leave an impression on the viewer, their personalities don't really have an opportunity to do so. Despite that, most of the performances in this version are good, unlike LORD OF THE FLIES 1963, where the only good one was James Aubrey's (while Hugh Edwards' was bad). 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

It was one of my favorite novels from my teenage years and had the 1990 version on VHS tape, I can't even say for certain that I've seen the 1963 version in it's entirety.

Somehow, I got out of reading it in high school. Should give it a shot.

I also read the book in high school. I've seen both the 1963 and 1990 versions of the movie, and I like them both.
