In regards to a related point, if God has decided to weed out the very worst of mankind before they do any harm or vex him the most, then we would not know they were missing. It may just be that those who survive still suit God's purpose. He does after all move in mysterious ways. In terms of the virus affecting those already going about their business there is no way of knowing what God knows so there is no reason why He is not directing the disease to already take out those who offend or might offend him most. It is hard however to equate the notion of an efficient or just god with a deity who allows the undirected deaths of some to punish others who might continue unscathed.
