Arlington Road (1999) Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins
Along with The Parallax View, one of the classic conspiracy thrillers with an ending that is well-nigh perfect. My 3rd/4th viewing and it won't be the last. The leads are exceptional, especially Bridges who always seems to be one step behind.
Brilliant stuff.

groundhog day - but that's over.
so right now i'm getting ready for St. Paddy's Day - which to me means Irish movies 24/7. boondock saints, the departed, miller's crossing - but here's one of my favorites. came out the same year as Goodfellas but never receives any recognition. if you're a mafia fan it's tremendous and has an epic cast.

De-Lovely (2004) Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd, Jonathan Pryce
Bio of Cole Porter....with a difference. Porter is in Limbo/Purgatory on his way to Heaven/Hell and whilst waiting he reviews his life and especially his relationship with Linda, his wife. He was gay but their regard and affection for one another transcended sex. Lots of stars and songs and some fine acting by Kline, Judd and Pryce as the escorting angel.
There was an earlier bio (1946) with Cary Grant but that was a sanitized Hollywood version. This one pulls no punches and is all the better for allowing us to understand what he suffered both physically and emotionally, while composing some of the great songs of the last century. Well worth a look.

Wings(27) Amazing for the time. 1927! One of the most worthy Best Film winners ever. Went home last night not expecting to see Wings and then I pressed some buttons and there it was.

Wings(27) Amazing for the time. 1927! One of the most worthy Best Film winners ever. Went home last night not expecting to see Wings and then I pressed some buttons and there it was. I DVR'ed it. Seen it before and will watch it this weekend. The aerial combat scenes are amazing, especially because the stars, Richard Arlen and Buddy Rogers, had to fly themselves, not stuntmen. Had some hokey elements. And Clara Bow flashed the camera. She was THE sex symbol at the time. Bet a lot of male movie doers with they had a pause button at the time. Love silents and loved Wings. However, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans should be recognized as the first Best Picture winner. There were two films that got "Oscars", Wings for "Best Production" and Sunrise for "Best Unique and Artistic Picture". Wings is great but Sunrise is maybe the greatest silent and still one of the greatest movies ever. Is you can stomach silents, let alone b/w, catch Sunrise.

Best film winner, but the other winner that year, Sunrise, is a genuine masterpiece. The first year out they had two categories for best film and nost creative artistic production, or something like that. Not sure how long that lasted.

Any of the films by Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda. Look him up. He specializes in touching family dramas.

I haven't watched a decent film for ages (too much sport on tv), so I was hoping to find some inspiration here, and I have. I shall now endeavour to rewatch Our Little Sister (which I've been promising myself for ages) and watch I Wish and Like Father, Like Son for the first time very soon. I've had the latter two for several months without getting around to them.

Syriana (2005) The stories that this movie tries to tell about the dirty politics of the global oil industry, while intriguing, are not always easy to follow, which makes it all the more fascinating/frustrating and persuades the viewer that maybe a secong viewing will makes things clearer. (it doesn't). But all is redeemed by the quality of the very large cast. which includes George Clooney, Matt Damon, Chris Cooper, Christopher Plummer, Jeffrey Weight, William Hurt and others. I've watched it twice and will go back for another go. I'm especially puzzled about why the dad of Jeffrey Weight's character is included. Clooney won Best Supporting Actot Oscar for this and that was well deserved.

TRESPASS AGAINST US. How the producers managed to persuade Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson to perform in this little gem of a movie about a thieving family of travellers/gypsies, I'll never know but I'm glad that they did. The car chases are a hoot with the cops portrayed as of the Keystone Kops variety and everyone has a bit of a hoot. There is a bit of a family drama in there which is never allowed to spoil and the acting by the two leads is phenomenal. A kind of secret guilty pleasure

Sounds like a nightmare. Unless the cops shot them all at the end?!

Completely missed that Tresspass against us, love Gleeson and Fassbender so its not like the real crims Just watched Baby Driver(17) Reminded me of the early Tarantino's, amazing beginning and ending. Started out like a 10 and then went down to an 8 and ended a 9, so recommended. Really miss Spacey after this one

I enjoyed Brooklyn on BBC1 last night. Saoirse Ronan is a great actress. Thought Julie Walters was really funny.
Would have loved to see Elish slapping the shit out of that interfering shopkeeper!
