Admin mentioned in another thread that some users "turn off the search bar" . I recently "discovered" it and find that it is a handy dandy little feature for doing quick checks on this and that when you don't want to bring up a whole page of detailed info and a quick way to get there when you do. SO... is there a technical reason to disable it or is it just a personal preference thing?

I am assuming that it is: Win 10 Lower Left corner (Immediately to the right of the WIN icon) "🔎Type here to search"

Whatever that thing is in Windows 10. It starts with C, but it was the first thing Catman disabled when he got a Windows 10 machine. Maybe Cortana … the thing you ask about images over on Yahoo image etc. Well .. maybe not "You" you but … some of us ask Cortana for help with finding things.
WHY did you disable it ?

It takes up way too much real estate on the taskbar and I have far too many shortcuts to put there.

Admin K … Thanks muchly ! I have plenty of room on the taskbar so I should be ok for a while spacewise !. Just wanted to make sure that there was no technical reason that it should be turned off.

None that I'm aware of. Given that you can do the exact same thing by simply hitting (or clicking) the start button and typing, it's also unnecessary.

AND I figured out what "the start button" is so I'd didn't have to ask !  I really should experiment with the keyboard and see what happens with the mystery keys !

I didn't know you could disabled it. Turns out .. if you right click on the "search bar" all sorts of on/off thing-gummys are available ! Who'd a thunk it ? I suspect that at some point I accidently turned it on and just left it there ignored and unused.

Funny thing .. after asking about the search bar and learning a couple of helpful things .. IT WON'T WORK TODAY ! rebooted … begged … re-booted.. swore .. nada ! I figure the problem is my puter …… just thought that the timing was kinda |
