They should have called it Harley Quinn. That's how stupid you have to assume the general public is. They're probably leaving money on the table by calling it Birds of Prey.

Being “woke” has very little, if anything, to do with it. Movies like Captain Marvel, Hustlers, and Knives Out all did really well, while something like Richard Jewell flopped the big one. The problem is that people just weren’t interested in a spin-off of Suicide Squad, and the marketing was underwhelming.

Hmm. Cue the "From the director of Guardians of the Galaxy" in that movie's trailers.

TBH this looked awful from the start. It did...and it was a terrible idea for a movie from the start.

Only has to make $154 million to break even. Will probably do that next week.

Nah dude $250-300m depending on domestic to international split. The poor man's calculating usually doubles the production budget to break even. I use a 1.83 factor. This would not include marketing costs since that comes out of a different budget. You also have to consider offsets for taxes and promotions. The film is being promoted by outfits such as DC Universe, Megan Thee Stallion (for her song, “Diamonds”), Saweetie & GALXARA (for their song, “Sway With Me”), Splat Hair Color, Magnolia Bakery, ORLY Beauty, Smashbox, Triumph Motorcycles, Hot Topic, Her Universe, Rooster Teeth, PicsArt, and TikTok. Even though the box office looks small, the film is going to eventually be profitable because of its low budget and numerous promotions. It will definitely be more profitable than Green Lantern (which only made $219 million on a $200 million budget) and "Catwoman" (which made $82 million on a $100 million budget).

Marketing aside as we never know exactly what deals movie studious get. Why use a 1.83 factor for production vs box office? When the best possible return is half the box office in NA and the Western world Markets. A lot of the rest of the markets take more than half. This would mean that they would need to more than 2x from the box office to recover production cost.
