I could see him perhaps in alot of Dennis Hoppers roles actually as well as Paul Newman perhaps.

He naturally had a misunderstood, confused aura about him which made him ideal for Jim Stark, Cal Trask and the younger Jett Rink..
I cannot see him being a "take charge" or "cynical" character or downright evil. (Hud, Clyde Barrow)
His scenes as the older Jett Rink didn't ring true (for me at least !)
BUT .. he was really just a kid when he died so it is possible (and likely) that he would have matured into roles like this as he grew older and more experienced in his craft.
It would have been interesting to see him in a role where he had some fun instead of being engulfed in assorted types of angst !

I would have liked to have seen him in a western.
He was set to star in The Left-Handed Gun (1958). Paul Newman was cast after Dean died.
He and Newman auditioned together for East of Eden !

bravomailer I can easily imagine him in Montgomery Clift type roles .. that vulnerability that they both had ! Great choice !
