Instead of polls where we try to predict the Best Picture winner, here's one where you can mention your favorite BP nominee. You can only pick from the 9 nominees, but feel free to mention non-nominated movies that you would've wanted to win as well.
My pick from the nominated movies is definitely Parasite, followed by Marriage Story. One of my favorite BP line-ups I can remember, I like every nominated movie I've seen. My entire top 8 (I'll watch Little Women next week): 1. Parasite - 10/10 2. Marriage Story - 10/10 3. 1917 - 9/10 4. Once Upon a Time In Hollywood - 9/10 5. The Irishman - 8/10 6. Ford v Ferrari - 8/10 7. Jojo Rabbit - 7/10 8. Joker - 7/10
Also a shout out to Uncut Gems & Portrait of a Lady on Fire, both would've definitely been nominated had it been up to me.

Ford v Ferrari ; hands down. it's within my Top 77 movies straight up.
but from what I have seen of the nominee's...
1)Ford v Ferrari - 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 77 movies)
2)The Irishman - 7/10 (within my Top 154 movies)
3)Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up)
4)1917 (I was on the edge of a Thumbs Down/Thumbs Up on this one, but currently I gave it the benefit of the doubt. ill see how it is on a re-watch in the future. but the only movies that stand out from this director in general for me are... 1)Road to Perdition (2002) (10/10) 2)Skyfall (2012) (9/10) 3)Spectre (2015) (7.5-8/10))
5)Joker - 5/10 (Thumbs Down) (NOTE: Joker is watchable and Phoenix basically gives a good performance but the overall movie is not worth re-watching as the overall tone of it is a bit too negative/empty etc if you ask me which dulls it a bit)
p.s. my top movies of 2019 in general... 1)Ford v Ferrari 2)El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie 3)The Irishman. I like more for 2019 but those are the only ones that stand out to be among my favorite movies in general.

It should be Joker. It's a movie thats going to be remembered for a long time. No more crappy forgettable movies like Shape of Water and Argo winning best picture please that are forgotten about in 2 months. Its time for movies like Joker to start winning again. Its made a billion and connected with a lot of people worldwide. Yes box office isnt a indicator of quality, but this is a low budget movie that doesn't have the CGI fighting overload that every other superhero does nowadays and yet its made a billion plus. And on top of that its actually a very solid movie with a fantastic story. Dont let the sjw smear campaign of it glorying white male violence win.

Jason143 I agree with your general point. but with Oscars it's usually politics most of the time which stops many quality movies from being nominated in favor of BS that people, like you said, will largely forget shortly after the Oscars are over. because while I am not a fan of Joker (2019) I can easily see you making a case in favor of it as it will probably be a movie people still re-watch many years into the future and, apparently, is a movie many like to a higher degree. but just for me personally straight up... not many Oscar nominated movies are of any real worth as you see a little here and there but the easy majority, if not a high percentage, are forgettable.

Its time to change the culture at the Oscars then. Theyre ratings are declining year on year. They tried pulling that stunt of having a Best popular film catergory which they withdrew. Theyve decided to have no host the last 2 years. Every winning speech is virtue signalling or anti-Trump rhetoric. And above all they are awarding some incredibly unforgettable movies like Green Book and Birdman. No wonder audiences dont care as much anymore. Bring back the days when blockbusters like Titanic and Gladiator were getting recognized. Joker isnt a perfect film, I actually prefer Once upon a time in Hollywood. But Joker has accomplished almost the impossible. An R rated standalone movie with no over the top CGI action to mass sell it and it makes a billion dollars worldwide through story and character. None of the other movies can match that.

Jason143 Yeah, but good luck on getting them to change as they are too disconnected with the common person. it's a joke they would even need a separate category for 'best popular movie' as it's just some fake/artificial BS trying to kiss up to the common person. who knows, but personally I would attempt to find some sort of balance between popular movies that do solid $ and some movies that might be a little less popular in terms of $ but still well liked among many people etc. because if they largely just base awards on $$$ in the theaters, that would get boring basically (since things would be largely predictable (and I would hate to see tons of super hero movies getting awards)) which is why I think them attempting to find some sort of balance would make things a bit more interesting. but they should definitely get rid of those types of movies that are largely politics and will be largely forgotten shortly after awards season is over. hell, I am confident many people are influenced to give a movie a higher score just because it was nominated for Best Picture more than them truly liking the movie to any higher degree.
so yeah, movies like Gladiator would be a solid balance there as it did solid $, is liked by many people to a higher degree unlike your typical super hero movie that does solid $ that I suspect many don't like to any higher degree as time passes.
p.s. hell, even if they wanted a little politics in there... if you got say 10 movies nominated for best picture they could toss in maybe a couple but don't ever let them win (or rarely win) and just having them nominated will get a fair amount of people to see them if they really feel something deserves to get recognized etc.
But at the same time against that is... the Joker character seemed to be a already popular especially after the Heath Ledger performance. so it sort of sold itself. hence, not as impossible

I've only seen -
1917 Once Upon a Time In Hollywood The Irishman Joker
liked all 4 but none are close to great. Either Joker or Once Upon a Time In Hollywood to win.

Parasite, but it won't win because it's foreign.

I voted for Ford v Ferrari. That, and 1917, are the only two nominees I've seen. Although 1917 was a great film, and an incredible achievement, due to the grim subject matter it's a downer.
Ford v Ferrari on the other hand is a real crowd-pleaser.
However, I'm sure that 1917 will actually win, and I'm fine with that.

I’ve only seen 3 out of them so far, but I’ll say Joker, although it probably doesn’t deserve it as good as it is.

No, Joker has already been forgotten about, just like Inception. Then again, your analytical skills is utter horse shit.

Cheering for Parasite or Joker. I would be content with Marriage Story, but I'd be thrilled with Parasite or Joker. I could deal with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It feels destined to age into something that will have deserved it.
My prediction will be the very good but not the best of the group 1917. It's the safest choice once you eliminate Netflix and round up from comic book movie.

I would be happy with any of those winning it.

Of the 6 films I've seen, 5 of them wouldn't phase me that much if anyone of them won, (not Joker). However, I would like to see a surprise win other than the favorite, which appears to be 1917, which I wouldn't mind if it did win. It would be nice to see Jojo Rabbit or Ford vs Ferrari take out the big gong. I am still bamboozled as to why a film like FvF gets a best picture nod, contained 2 topnotch first class award worthy performances and an excellent support one from Tracy Letts, and didn't even nab any acting nominations. Makes no sense to me.

I haven't seen Parasite, not overly sold on Joker and Marriage Story just looks superficial to me. I agree with your take on OUATIH and I feel it had classic written all over it, the moment it hit the screen. It is a terrific homage and insight into its era and the Hollywood film industry at that time. Yes, history got rewritten, but that is also part of its charm. It ended bittersweet and that is just a perfect way to end a film. Pitt HAS to win supporting actor. He was in that role and played it with just the right balance of sardonic and cheeky wit and he was a sterling presence to boot.

I really liked Rocketman, from earlier on in the year, but that is more of a favorite, than what I guess wouldn't be as worthy as best picture over later films released and nominated. However, I feel that Egerton and Bell were both worthy of acting nods. Take out the Netflix crud, and a slot could have been found for them.
