My expectations were not very high, after the mess that was Suicide Squad, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It doesn't take itself seriously, like DC movies tend to, it's got action and humour, and Margot Robbie is just awesome.

Nope, not for me but I am surprised that you watched it though you don't really seem the type.

Well, today I watched this Algerian film to make up for it: letterboxd.com/film/papicha/I do watch a lot of international and art house movies but I rarely say no to a big Hollywood blockbuster - unless it's Fast and Furious or Transformers - you can only fool me once!

i thought it was terrible but at least it wasn't a dumb cgi fest like Josstice League or Aquaman. Ewan was great though.

Good, not great. One of my biggest peeves was similar to one I had with suicide squad, namely a character displaying a new power out of nowhere during the climax of the film . Maybe it wasn't a surprise to comic readers, but to us strictly movie folks, it was a WTF?! moment.

this movie was boring. also there was no one in the theatre (was a 1pm ish matinee). her hairdo bothered me. the funniest part was rosie perez's tshirt that said something about shaving balls. that was hilarious. i left right after she finds out she ate the diamond, i didnt even bother to stay for whatever happens next (caught the beginning of the supermarket).

Why do you think it is tanking at the box office?

I don't know, and I can't say that I am particularly interested in the answer.

I liked it when it became an actual Birds of Prey movie, considering I actually liked and rooted for Black Canary/Montoya/Huntress to varying extents. Nothing against Margot Robbie, but Harley Quinn doesn't work as a protagonist for me.
The star of the movie is Ewan McGregor, though. That was some fine scenery chewing.

I liked it too. It’s pretty much what I expected: Lady Deadpool. Like hell it’s a Birds of Prey story, although they are pretty good in the movie.

Margot Robbie was awesome! Can't complain about her presence or performance.
Visually the film was very sound and strong and plenty to look at and admire. I did find it sledgehammer femme 'woke' though, in that it wasn't quite balanced with an organic masculine representation of any male character. The males were either the bad guys, who were also peppered with a feminine or homoerotic quality, (not that I mind, but it was shallow), or just over the top douchy, stupid and cliched. Another female director, bringing us a cool and wicked action film, but with females as the focus. Give us some middle ground here ladies, you will lose your audience.

Didnt like it. Too unbelievable with the fighting. I actually liked that the fight scenes didn't show Harley Quinn beating up men twice her size using her bare hands - she always had a weapon of some kind. Less unrealistic this way.

It felt like they were trying for a Deadpool vibe. Harley tells her story all out of order until we get to the end.
I don't think it's underperforming as much as they had too high expectations.
I think $40 mill opening was probably high.
It's not a lot of "A" characters or performers. Margot Robbie is big news, but is McGregor that high on box office draw? He's a name, but do people go to a film bacause he is in it, or is he a nice bonus?
Harley-yeah. Do people know Huntress? Black Canary?
So this should be a bit more in the land of Captain America & Thor back when & they had Marvel good will on their side.
DC, on the other hand, has blown their brand. The fanboys of course, & even comicbook fans like myself, but the public at large where much of the bucks come from are more wait & see.
And when they overestimate the gross ; see it downgraded, it feeds the idea the movie is lacking.
Avengers, for example. The studio made their estimate & the numbers came in way over. This sold it as an event people needed to see.
They should have estimated 30-40 mill. The estimate would have looked like the film was performing at expectations

Most of the fighting in these type of films is unrealistic in some way or another. I found myself nodding off in some of these sequences. I liked the film best when Harley was making her sarcastic and wry quips and showcasing her prowess and cunning at attempting to get herself out of sticky situations that as she commented, she didn't quite put as much thought into it as she should have.
