Yip. Pretty much. We've got to hope it does some good for international films rather than it being the exception. For what 'ultimate' purpose would it do some good and to serve what? Hopefully it makes more people go and see these types of films. Which would mean more of them get shown in cinemas. Which would make more people go and see these films. Which would mean more of them get shown in cinemas, and so on and on and on.

They do show them in cinemas, mostly arthouse as you would know, and since they tend to want to promote streaming of films as well, that puts the kybosh on promoting theatrical screenings too. At any rate my local cinemas have put Parasite on this week on limited sessions, so I at least will get an opportunity sometime early next week to go see in a cinema. Parasite's win will generate a bit of buzz, but for the average mainstream cinemagoer, it still won't be much of a drawcard and it doesn't mean they will like it, especially if the other nominees were seen and there was a favorite.

I really don't understand why some people now suddenly have the opinion that you can't be nominated for both Foreign and Best Picture. It has always been a possibility and f.e. it's also possible to be nominated for both Animated Feature and Best Picture (Up, Toy Story 3). Why did no one complain about that, it's exactly the same to what happened now. Also, this isn't the first non-American movie to win. Besides the many British movies, The Artist won in 2011/2012. And the Artist is a French movie. I don't recall any outrage back then, why is it now suddenly different? Is it because The Artist was a silent movie so people weren't smart enough to figure out it was foreign, I find it hard to believe that. That is a good point, but I don't think many people bothered to see The Artist and it has diminished from memory. I recall reading heaps of backlash about its win though at the time. Why has the Academy made a deal about Parasite the first foreign film to win? The Artist was a co-production with the US and was filmed in LA too. This year was all done for hype and promotion. Any publicity, is still publicity.
English films are not so much foreign, in the sense they are relatable and in English. That is the key difference.
I feel that this year, there were quite a few films that cinema goers may have felt very strongly about. If people are going to be meh about what was up for grabs, a fuss won't get made.

An international film just won the most famous film prize on the planet. It will help world cinema. That's not in doubt. You typing some trolly waffle doesn't change that.

Trolly Waffle You are so precious.
It is a famous award for those that are interested in the Oscars only, and as far as helping world cinema, it has only been given a big hand and push by a posturing and phony film institution. The only world cinema I see getting big promotions at cinemas are Bollywood films, because there is a large market to feed of from Indian viewers. The rest screen at select arthouse venues.

Most that would have seen and watched Parasite, would have been those already interested in foreign and\or Korean cinema to begin with. Perhaps Koreans themselves. It is preaching to the converted, with a few new ones to add to the fold. I wouldn't get too excited.

A 'Parasite' TV series has now been commissioned, and it's just been re-released in multiplexes where I live. I'd say that's a good start to try and get those unconverted on board. See you in the local arthouse cinema Toasted Cheese. I'll be in the back row. Come and say hi.

The mainstream cineplexes will only show them if a following. There is also a local arthouse nearby, so an opportunity is given for alternate cinema as well. There is going to be a new 12 screen complex built nearby, that will screen a mix of art and mainstream product.

Pretty much guaranteed you are likely a troll as well.... He is, but why was that post the one that made you guess it? That's arguably the least troll-y thing he has said so far. Is it because The Artist was a silent movie so people weren't smart enough to figure out it was foreign, I find it hard to believe that. Its official language is English, based on the original title cards and the words the actors say while only moving their lips. Also, we hear them speaking in English at the end. It is a famous award for those that are interested in the Oscars only, and as far as helping world cinema, it has only been given a big hand and push by a posturing and phony film institution. If you have such a low opinion of the Oscars, what do you care about what they allow or don't allow to be nominated?

Interesting that when one doesn't agree with something, it suddenly becomes about trolldom. How predictable and boring you are.
I have a low opinion of you more vits.
