Yeah, Deliverance stands out. He's quite good in Boogie Nights too, though he supposedly was ticked off about the film. I also like White Lightning for its look at small-town life and Ned Beatty's remarkable performance.

Burt's comment about that pose, when told his hand was covering a strategic location:
"Not my hand -- my arm, my arm!"

I like him, .. always have β¦ from Gunsmoke, Riverboat, Dan August etc ~ TV days on .. BUT he made a heck of a lot of pictures that I have never seen and some I started to watch but turned 'em off just because manic car chases are not my genre of choice β¦ all that aside β¦ Evening Shade was, for me, his BEST non-movie OR think of it as a very long film shown like a serial !

As a birthday treat my big sister took me to see this "R"-rated movie back when it was originally released, which was a BIG deal for me (and one of those COOL things that older siblings sometimes do for their younger siblings)! Even if the movie had stunk, I'm sure it would have been a great experience for me since, at 15, it was one of the first "grown up" things I remember getting to do......but it was great, and especially fun for a sports nut like me, given that some of the cast consisted of ex-NFL players (and living in Wisconsin, the appearance of ex-Packer (and Vince Lombardi protege') Ray Nitschke as "Bogdanski" was REALLY cool!) The Longest Yard (1974)Now, a question for somebody who might know......in looking for an image of the original movie poster for this flick, I noticed many had the title as "The Mean Machine", rather than the title the film was released under.......was there a last second change in title AFTER a lot of the movie posters had already been printed? I'm assuming that's the case, but don't know for sure since I had never come across this before......anyone know anything about this ?? SAVE FERRIS

I remember what Johnny Carson said about Burt at a roast in his honor:
"Some say Burt Reynolds has no depth or range to his acting But I ask you this --- Can Lord Olivier jump a ravine in a Chevy pickup? We're talkin' ART here!"

Probably not "peak" Reynolds, but my favorites were his films with Hal Needham:
Smokey and the Bandit Hooper Cannonball Run Stroker Ace
I loved "car" movies of that era and his sense of humor was just fabulous. My favorite late career film of his is beyond a doubt Boogie Nights. I can't imagine anyone else in the role.
