Japan continues the domination of the 1950, (admittedly a personal bias) with Mizoguchi alone scoring 3 of the Top 4 spots
9 The Crucified Lovers [Japan] Sound of the Mountain [Japan] Sansho the Bailiff [Japan] Her Mother's Profession [Japan]
7 Senso [Italy]

Sansho the Bailiff (Japan) Seven Samurai (Japan) Twenty-Four Eyes (Japan) The Crucified Lovers (Japan) Senso (Italy)
I was about to include Salt of the Earth in third place but I seem to recall that, while it had Spanish dialogue, most of it is in English.

Great to have your input Aj_June. Mizoguchi was unstoppable in those final years of his career, so many great films. Who knows what he may have achieved if he had lived a little longer. Big fan of Inagaki's Samurai trilogy, but this one didn't quite make the cut. Look forward to your contributions in a few more of these threads.
