Talking to FilmSpeak (via SFFGazette.com), Silver confirmed that production is just weeks away from concluding, with Jaffa adding that while they both went through a "period of mourning" for Caesar, "There's just a lot of story left to tell."
"Caesar created something and left a legacy," he adds, teasing how the ape who started this simian revolution will still be an important part of this story. "So then the questions are: what happens with that? What becomes of his legacy?"
While speculation continues to run rampant that Caesar's son will become the dictator we all know and fear from the original movies, the writers made it clear that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes won't be the movie that takes us to a post-apocalyptic Earth ruled over by the apes.
"Do we want to rush toward an ending [the beginning of the original Planet of the Apes], or do we want to find an interesting story to tell with interesting characters?" he asks, suggesting this new trilogy is in no hurry to get us back to that familiar setting.

ANOTHER Reboot? Will there be another Reboot in 10 years? It’s not a reboot. It’s a sequel.

More plot details:
"...Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence. Some groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires. In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to latter’s quest, although she has plans of her own."

Very good movie. I’m surprised just about all around. I’ll echo darkpast above and say I wasn’t a huge fan of the main human female.
She’s far from bad, but she simultaneously over and underacts.
Owen Teague as Noa was fantastic, though.

Owen Teague as Noa was fantastic, though. I think she was hindered by an underwritten character that didn't go too far one way or another. Although her American accent was kinda shaky. I was waiting for her to ask Noah for a spot of tea.
