Australian band led by the prolific songwriter Steve Kilbey, successful in many countries. One of my favourite bands, over twenty albums and almost as many solo albums from Kilbey.

I own Starfish and Gold Afternoon Fix. Starfish I love in that Echo & The Bunnymen vein. Gold Afternoon Fix sounds too U2ish to my ears. Should I press on beyond those two?

An earlier album Heyday is in the same mould as Starfish and possibly you may like the very early album Blurred Crusade. After Starfish I'd recommend Further Deeper, most of their albums beyond GAF are quite different, with soaring melodies and concept type albums. I'll put a few up on this thread.

Under the Milky Way is a really nice song. Other than that I am not very familiar with The Church.

It took me a while, but I finally got there, and these guys is one of those bands, which have frequently been showing up as of lately, during music chats in different forums/sites, and took my chance with their 1988 release Starfish (well, the online store I purchased it from, did not leave me with too many options. It was either that album, or an best of compilation) and of course, I did listen to most of the album cuts through Youtube, and for me, the one which surely made me want to head right in and order it, was the beautiful album closer: Hotel WombSince I got it last week, I have not yet gotten around to rate it, but it will surely lie very high, and I love the dreamy atmosphere several of the songs include so much of, the vocals, and those guitars are just amazing. The way many of the songs just "glides" away during the outro, makes me think of The Chameleons, and yeah, I will most certainly be picking up more of their albums later on. I think the "safest" way, is maybe going a bit backwards, maybe next stop will be Heyday (1986), which I have also briefly stopped by, from time to time, but only through a few songs that is. A few other songs from Starfish that I love, (not a bad or mediocre moment on that record) are these: A New Season, Lost and Reptile

Under the Milky Way is a really nice song. Other than that I am not very familiar with The Church. Same. I like baritone voices, so will check some of these out. edit - Nothing hitting me. A bit either monotone or sluggish or both. Also checked out Reptile and Unguarded Moment. Tantalized, maybe.

Finally managed to pick up a few more albums by The Church, and where Heyday (1986) felt almost as strong as Starfish (1988), and have been impressed by how great those two albums sounds, and if they have a few more of the same in quality and atmosphere, well, I would be very, very glad.
Anyway, a few of those cuts I enjoyed the most from Heyday:
Tristesse
As You Will
Youth Worshipper
I believe that the CD copy I picked up through one of my Second Hand Store visits a while back, was that of a bonus track version, as The View and As You Will where featured into the list of album songs, and not at the very end, and I prefered that, as I really loved both, but yeah, As You Will where among the ones I felt stood out as the best ones.
