And by that I mean what is something that makes you angry in films? For me there are 2 big ones.
- Being Boring. Sure I can enjoy a film for other reasons but firstly I like to be entertained or amused by a film. Granted many films have slow spots and thats fine if it has other redeeming values but a film that just bores me is a major frustration.
- Bad Messages A lot of films I have on my worst 100 are ones that have horrible morals or advice to them. Films that were made to take to heart. Films like Gods Not Dead, Loving the Bad Man, Audacity, Cries of the Unborn and War Room just to name a few.

When the movie thinks it’s smarter than it actually is.

The single worst offence a movie can make is to be horribly made. These movies aren't always boring and can be "so bad they are good" but that is in an ironic sense. No matter how amusingly awful a movie is it can never be better than a movie that actually puts in effort, even if that effort results in a tedious bore.

When the movie thinks it’s smarter than it actually is. Interesting. I don't usually have a problem with those kinds of movies, unless the movie has a smug self-satisfaction to it.

Im very forgiving if its a low budget film but a film with millions of dollars behind it then there is no room for excuses.

Boring is something that is in the "eye of the beholder"... most film makers don't build "boredom" into a film with the goal being to "bore" the viewer … unless you count things like Andy Warhol's 8 hour plus film of the Empire State Building "A single shot of the Empire State Building from early evening until nearly 3 am the next day. "

Animal cruelty, especially if staged for the film, and especially if it is trying to make a statement on how awful violence is (i.e. Apocalypse Now).

Being bland for the sake of not causing offense. Agreed. Squandered potential.

pet peeve and related to the idea of "squandered potential"
Taking a fascinating true life story and turning it into a total sham by twisting facts to make a "better story" by adding a fake scandalous situation ..
Most recent example: The Greatest Showman was an incredible disappointment IF one has even a rudimentary knowledge of the Life Of PT Barnum and / or Jenny Lind.
Movie "biographies" are noted for taking historical liberties but this was made when they should just know better !
