Sheffield, England band and extremely influential. Started in70's, went on for about 20 years , a lot of hip hop house etc. was influenced by them. Main man Richard H Kirk still releasing under his own name, mainly downloads. New album out Nov '20, see latest post.

Saw them twice back in the early '80s. Great shows.

Bit harsh on Mal to call Richard H Kirk the mainman. I find a lot of Kirk's stuff quite clunky and unappealing, but I've not heard much since the early 90s. Anyway, I much prefer the industrial era stuff, unsurprisingly, given I pretty much like everyfink industrial. Red Mecca is probably my favourite album, and this track in particular is stunning. I think it's the closest thing I can think of as a prototype for the band Main, and their early records of guitar noise as ambience.

The single Sensoria was actually an amalgamation of two tracks from the Micro-Phonies album," Do Right " and " Sensoria" Also on that album was track " James Brown " I wonder what James Brown thought of it!!

It's amazing how you can start to dislike people just because of the show's they've attended. I'd kill to see a line-up like that. Admittedly, I was 5 at the time, and a few thousand miles away, but still, you could've invited me along.

New album due out soon. No Stephen Mallinder, just Kirk, but interesting to read that the material harks back to early style.
