These movies are not obscure because they are B pictures made by nobodies and starring nobodies, just the opposite. These are real moves with major stars. I saw both of these films only once as a child. This fact alone is quite strange because back then every TV station had it's library of movies that they would show over and over so you would see them at least once a year if not 2 or 3 times a year. Also, I never see any mention of them on the internet. Both have very few ratings on IMDB and I never see them on TCM (or anywhere else). So, these films must be largely forgotten but for some reason I remember them.
The Secret War of Harry Frigg (1968) This is a lighthearted WWII film with a huge leading man, Paul Newman and a great supporting cast including Tom Bosely, James Gregory, and Andrew Duggan. Directed by Jack Smight. It seems to be somewhat inspired by Kelly's Heroes. Here's the plot summary:
In 1943, when 5 captured Allied one-star generals cannot agree on an escape plan, the HQ promotes an escape-savvy private to 2-star general and sends him to coordinate the captive VIPs.
Peg Leg, Musket, and Saber (AKA Scalawag) (1973) Produced, written, Directed and Starring Kirk Douglass, this film is a re-imagining of "Treasure Island" set in Mexico in the early 1800's. The supporting cast is top notch including Neville Brand (playing twin brothers), Don Stroud, Lesley-Anne Down, and a very young Danny Devito. Douglass plays the Long John Silver role and sports a peg leg. He and his group of land pirates are seeking treasure. The film makes a great use of music to the point where it could almost be considered a musical. So if you want to see Danny Devito sing check it out. Here's the plot summary.
A peg legged pirate is searching for treasure with the help of a young boy, teen girl and a parrot. They'll have to fight Natives and his former crew on the way.

I've seen Scalawag, never heard of the Newman one.
Douglas did another pirate movie a couple of years before, Light At The Edge of the World.

Speaking of pirates, my entry for this topic could be A HIGH WIND IN JAMAICA with Anthony Quinn. I saw it on TV once, decades ago. I was enchanted by it but Iβve never seen it again.

I never heard of that one but it looks awesome!
I first heard (read) about it in the film encyclopedic books Cinebooks aka The Motion Picture Guide. It was like an encyclopedia version of IMDb and I BELIEVE they (IMDb) got a lot IF not MOST of their info for films of the 80s and BEFORE from it. AfaIk, it's the MOST COMPLETE and COMPREHENSIVE information on films PRIOR to 1990 EVER!

Situation Hopeless... But Not Serious (1965)
I first saw this amusing gem on TCM one night. I was surprised I had never heard of it. None of my friends knew about it either although I'm confident someone on this board has. I've since learned it's a remake of a tv episode, Playhouse 90: The Hiding Place (1960).
From Wiki... "In World War II, two American fliers, Captain Hank Wilson (Robert Redford) and Sergeant Lucky Finder (Mike Connors), are forced to bail out over Germany. They encounter Wilhelm Frick (Alec Guinness), who hides them from the authorities in his cellar. He enjoys their company so much that he does not inform them when the war ends. Instead, he maintains a masquerade to convince his "guests" that Germany is still fighting. Eventually, after seven years, they escape into a peaceful West Germany and find out the truth."

Have always had a bit of a soft spot for 1963's The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (sometimes known as Dr. Syn), a superior Disney live actioner that seems to have dropped out of sight for a long time now.

I used to watch that on 'The WONDERFUL World of Disney'. Back then it was NBC, but now it's ABC. A few years back it was on the Disney Channel (or one of their channels).

Somehow Mr. Frobush and the Penguins 1971 has stuck in my head, starring a pre-Caligula John Hurt. and this was made long before the more famous movies about the penguins in Antarctica.

Seems to me that Disney invented the miniseries back then with The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, Mooncussers, Elfego Baca, Johnny Shiloh, Johnny Tremaine, Texas John Slaughter.....

This political satire Taiwanese movie I saw a long time ago called "If I Were For Real", I highly recommended. Not too many people saw it. Only 68 votes as of now on IMDb. The leading actor is a mega pop singer in Hong Kong, not that well known outside of East Asia. For a singer, he delivered in this movie.

I liked "College Girl Murders", a German version of the giallo, with super saturated colors. 1967

This may be a bit of a liberty since it's a TV film but Black Noon has always stuck with me.
Not a top notch cast but certainly worthy. During the 70's devil worship phase.
Roy Thinnes Yvette Mimieux Ray Milland Gloria Grahame Henry Silva
Hank Worden

Roy Thinnes Yvette Mimieux Ray Milland Gloria Grahame Henry Silva Hank Worden TV movies are fine, Opus. Welcome. Itβs funny. I remember Roy Thinnes in another devil worship TV movie named SATANβS SCHOOL FOR GIRLS. The 1970βs were the Golden Age of TV movies and, in my opinion, nobody did it better than the ABC Network. There are so many of them that I only saw once but have never forgotten.
