Better late than never. S3 coming soon... Well I watched season 1 when it first released but when season 2 came out I wasn’t really in the mood for a crime drama...so I put it off for another day and that day was some time in the past 2 weeks. If I could change 1 thing tho...and this will spoil season 2 for anyone reading... I wouldn’t have had Darlene and Jacob be at odds. I really liked the Snells as a power couple and the way Jacobs calm demeanor offset Darlene’s wild ruthlessness. I didn’t like that in the end they were pretty much both looking to kill each other...one successfully. Other than that...I loved the character progression for Ruth, Marty, Wendy and Jonah....Charlotte felt too much like a teenage brat even tho she was completely right. I’m also glad the FBI guy was done in since he felt like a middling leftover from season 1 most of the time. Loved the addition of the lawyer woman.

This show is done well. Good acting, writing, cinematography, music, etc.
But it's basically a show about bad people doing bad things. I already know laundering money for a violent Mexican drug cartel is the wrong thing to do. Especially when you are putting your whole family at risk. I already know being a serial adulterer who blames everything on her husband is a bad thing. I already know being a family famous for long arrest records, continuous theft, breaking and entering, etc. is a bad thing. The only good main character is Rachel. At least through five episodes. Which is as far as I got.
I read lots of the user reviews on IMDb. Many reviews said none of the characters are attractive or interesting. I watched it just out of curiosity since so many people were talking about it. I wasn't attracted to it when I saw it advertised on Netflix. And I wasn't surprised when I wasn't interested after five episodes. (And I only got that far out of boredom and having nothing else to watch at the moment. I watched it until I got sleepy. And I've had no interest in continuing.)
Supposedly season one was the best. And it's downhill from there. I didn't like season one. (Apparently the bad characters keep doing bad things and never learn from their mistakes. Redundant, monotonous and no growth.)
I gave it a 10 for production value. And a 1 for interest and appeal. Halfway between 1 and 10 is my rating --- a 5.

The majority of characters in the show are criminally active and even a few that aren't at the beginning wind up evolving into more underhanded characters as the show progresses. The show was intended to be along the lines of stuff like Sopranos and Breaking Bad tho...so the lack of morally good characters is entirely intentional.

I don't really understand this facination with bad people doing bad things. I guess it's like voyeurism or fantasy. As in, "I would never do such things. But I'm curious to see what kind of person would, and what would happen to them --- from the safety of my living room. It's facinating to me because otherwise I just couldn't imagine what such people, behavior, or a lifestyle would be like."
