2022? Wow! I wonder why so far away? There must be a lot of dragons in it to require that much time!

Strange i know people who remember shows that ended 10-20-30-40 even 50 years ago.
So it will be very strange if people forget GOT in 2022 when it ended in 2019

House of the Dragon got a straight to full season order by HBO. The other pilot was a different GOT show, Bloodmoon. It's hard to say whether it was the right move without being able to see it. It's a shame though either way. I agree on the show going into a different direction with the later season. I preferred the earlier seasons where words were used far more effectively between the characters than a sword. I like all the political and family dynamic of Westeros. It sounds like we won't probably won't get that with House of the Dragon; outside of family conflict, which played a huge part in House Targaryen's past.

Looking forward to it. Having read and enjoyed the book, I am curious about how they are going to adapt it into a TV show. Are they going to keep the same premise of covering centuries of the history of the Targaryen dynasty? That would mean changing the cast probably every season. That's not something that TV shows do very often.

Yes.
It's not exactly in the form of a novel, with characters and dialogues and a plot. It's written as if it were a history book compiled by a Westerosi maester based on various sources.

Yeah, same with Bloodmoon. Bloodmoon was another GOT prequel that was going to be based on (at least loosely) another one of GRRM's books: The World of Ice and Fire. Martin said that the book had 'one or two sentences' about the storyline for that show. Unfortunately, I suppose now we'll never know which sentences they are...

LOL its like a labyrinth he created so many books or spin offs that its all tangled , I like simplicity. Well, except for A Song of Ice and Fire and the Tales of Dunk and Egg, the rest of the books are just basically history books of his world. GRRM is a big fan of Tolkien, so he kind of built his world similar to Tolkien in that way. The upside over simplicity, is that the history books are what allowed GOT to seem like such a real world. When Joffrey talks about the dragons from the height of Targaryen power, you know that it was fully realized/developed. The same goes for when Tywin tells his grandson about the various kings through anecdotes and which ones were wise or fools. I've always appreciated that detail. It's the little things that add up. Eventually, the later seasons of GOT stopped making time for those little things and the world seemed "smaller" in scope (to me at least).
