Beautiful snake, great photo! I have a friendly black rat snake that hangs out on my property, so I don't have to worry about mice!

Beautiful snake, great photo! I have a friendly black rat snake that hangs out on my property, so I don't have to worry about mice! We have the prettier relative of the black rat snake around here...the corn snake. Unfortunately for them, folks often mistake them for copper heads and kill them. Ugh! They are part of our ecosystem, too. I have had encounters with copperheads and water moccasins, and of the two, the water moccasin is more aggressive. When I hike, I wear leather boots that go up to my knees, and I carry a walking stick that I deliberately hit the ground with, hoping the vibrations will cause the snake to make a u-turn. Live and let live...
