It's neither random nor out of place. She felt the pull of the ring and successfully resisted it. "I passed the test." It was never mentioned again because the ring was never as close to her as in that moment.

haha I HATED that scene in LOTR. Well, I didn't care for the movie but that seemed like a WTF gibberish spouting moment. Blanchett did it well though.
