Tarkovsky's Stalker is on British TV tonight

A writer seeking inspiration, and a scientist who wants to make a discovery, band together to hire a guide to take them to The Room, a place where people's desires are reputedly granted. The Room lies within a vast rural area called The Zone, which is guarded by the military, who will use any force necessary to prevent citizens from entering it. However, guides called 'stalkers' know how to get in to The Zone, and can sense the invisible path that safely leads to The Room. And so the trio embark on their long, strange and dangerous journey. But it gradually becomes clear that their motives and personalities could well undermine their expedition, if that's not first pre-empted by The Zone itself. With Alisa Freindlikh and Natasha Abramova as the stalker's wife and daughter, who beg him not to make another trip through the forbidden region.
