Two adaptions of Alan Moore's work which he hated both as well. But then again, he always been bitter about his own work being adapted.
For me though, I preferred V for Vendetta. It hit the themes and symbolism of freedom and its relationship with anarchy and the absence of government far better than Watchmen handled it's own themes and symbolisms. That's not to say it's not flawed either. But the irony is that Watchmen had a good 45mins more in runtime than V for Vendetta, and literally an hour and half more with the ultimate edition, but it just stumbled around with the themes of the novel while Snyder was more focused on stylized action, violence and blood.

Whilst being a fan of both comics, and subsequently both films, my vote goes to Watchmen. It my have got a few things wrong, but it got many things right. Far better than I ever expected it to have been.

Both are among my favorites comic book adaptations.
I can say for sure that V for Vendetta is better than the theatrical release of Watchmen but when it's put against the Director's Cut, I have trouble saying which one I like more.

Watchmen is my favorite superhero film - mature, beautiful and iconic, especially the D.C. I rank it before all the DarkKnights, Logans, WonderWomen or Jokers. It made me read the graphic novel, and I have not read a comic book since hitting puberty. V for Vendetta was alright, did not impress me too much. But it has become iconic and cult-ic, should probably watch it again for final appraisal.

I didn't like V for Vendetta at all. I have not read the graphic novel.
I enjoyed Watchmen quite a bit, nothing like I expected. And I have read the excellent graphic novel.

I have read both and seen both. Both are excellent but Watchmen is better.

I thought V For Vendetta improved on the source material while the Watchmen movie seemed like a humourless copy of the graphic novel.
